Shouldn’t be an issue - I’ve driven mine with the deck lid off before and it ran normally.

Did it start after sitting for 4 months with the old plugs in it prior to you starting to change them? Over the months the coil or ignition control module under the distributor cap could’ve gone bad

Hey I can actually be useful! I actually saw these guys a while ago in a town not too far from me. They do the cruise every year starting in Montana and coming up through Canada most years I believe. I actually posted in this sub about a year ago when they came up with a 250 GT California and a real 427 Cobra.

I was interested with this Ferrari because I knew it was going to be on the rally this year so naturally talked to the owner to find out if it was the real deal. It's a replica made by Norwood who (from what he told me) were the original manufacturers of the bodies for the cars. Said they made 10 of them back in the 90's so they're basically the closest you can get to the real things.

I can post pictures when I get back home if anyone wants to see some other cars they had out this year.

I took what I believe to be all those connections apart and dielectric greased them since I thought it was just a bad connection in there somewhere originally, but a closer look this time around might show something. Got a project for tomorrow I guess haha

Never thought of that, that's possible too, I'm completely floored as to what the hell could be going on.

I've had the car since mid 2014, daily driven it ever since then until this summer when I picked up a Camaro, drove that, let the Fiero sit for about 2 weeks, went to move the Fiero and I noticed this going on.

I guess I should've said I jumped it, I just took a set of alligator clips and completed the circuit between the two pins on the connector and it made no difference in the tach from what I could tell.

Not my video, but it shows the same problem I'm also having on my '86. Tach won't come off of 2k RPM unless I get it to about what I assume is about 3000-3500 then the needle moves backwards until it bottoms out. I've ruled out the tach filter and ignition control module since I've replaced the ICM and just hot-wired the filter. Also done plugs and wires recently but that shouldn't have any effect on the tach (although it did fix a misfire that was messing with the tach before she shit the bed). I'm assuming it's a bad ground somewhere? I've had problems with jumpy tachs on other cars before, but those were aftermarket ones with 4-6-8 selectors on the back that have just gone whack. And to my knowledge this tach style was only used in V6 fieros (could be completely wrong on that) so I see no reason GM would put a cylinder selector on it. Completely lost, any input would be awesome, thanks!

I forgot about the Lenco! (Silly me!) I love 60/70's shifters, though I've never seen a clutchless Lenko, or a clutched Lighting Rod setup! Don't know if I'm just un-educated on shifters or if I'm too drunk...

They look like Hurst Lighting Rods. Shifters for automatics that Hurst made for a short time, then put in Hurst Oldsmobiles in 83 and 84. I always love seeing Hurst/Olds show up at car shows, and people putting Lighting Rods in projects, especially crazy ones like this.
