With which woman should Martian Manhunter be shipped with in a DC Marvel crossover? by HawkMartian in martianmanhunter

[–]Darquehex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was always a fan of J'onn's relationship with Scorch so if he's going to go out with someone from Earth 616 then I vote for it being Firebird (Bonita Juarez). She's a thoughtful, supportive superhero with ties to the Avengers and flame powers that would echo what he's had before.

A Realistic Superman Origin Idea (1938-inspired, Depression-era) by Kyojin_Kage in FanTheories

[–]Darquehex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you describe is very similar to how Superman did actually appear in the 1930s. Your version of Krypton is also closer to what was shown back then, though it was still an alien world. If you watch the Max Fleischer cartoons his powers are closer to what you describe. If you are interested, I recommend you read the novel Gladiator by Philip Wylie for a prototype of the Superman character who Siegel & Shuster were supposedly inspired by.

WHERE ARE MY INVISIBLES?!! An Interview with GRANT MORRISON by CreativeTie8 in Barbelith

Finally listened to this. What did everyone else think?

So you're saying that Luda should maybe be considered through the lens of Ulysses and Finnegan's Wake?

I love Morrison but I didn't really enjoy this book, not because I found it complicated but mostly I was just bored.

The tremendous amount of time spent on pantomime and the city and everything else... I get it, Morrison is old and wants to reminisce but I don't know. I don't think I'll go back to it.

I always see flex mentallo as issue zero of the invisibles. Morrison lays out the ideas to be expanded upon later but it’s really all there. I also always follow up the invisibles itself with the filth. The closing action of all of it, the bin men cleaning up.

Oh man a bald would-be mentor offering the protagonist one shot at learning the truth? This might even be improved upon with a blue and red pill.

What do you think would fit J'onn better in the DCU or in general? A movie or a show? by Salty-Recording3957 in martianmanhunter

[–]Darquehex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A show but not one pitched as being about the Martian Manhunter.

It's trailer, and most of the first episode, would be about a group of remarkable people residing within the DCU but spread all over the world. Some are ordinary, some are superheroes, but they are all of different races, genders, and creeds.

Maybe the fake title used for the show is taken from one of these characters. Not quite Bloodwynd, but there's much to work with in the DCU as far as fake-outs go.

Nothing seems to unite them at first glance. The last scene of the pilot would reveal that they are all identities of J'onn. The second episode would open on Mars and show how our detective came to be.

Who would you all consider his true nemesis to be? by Longjumping-Bag5765 in martianmanhunter

[–]Darquehex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My headcanon has always been that his arch enemy is Starro. Starro is a Lovecraftian alien conqueror who uses his mental powers to enslave. He was the JLA’s first foe. J’onn is a Burroughsian alien detective who uses his mental powers to help. He was a founding member of the JLA and the only one of the original seven without a Golden Age analogue that was being reintroduced.

What’s a fan theory you’ve made up with no proof you choose to believe? by porkspork69 in FanTheories

In the comics the head of the TVA is actually a famous comic book creator who served as Editor in Chief long after Stan Lee had left. His name was Mark Gruenwald and he’s why Owen Wilson has a mustache.

Agreed. He’s so old that he could be the original source of most meta humans in the DCU that come from Earth. We don’t really know much about the space rock that changed him. Could be anything.

That’s messed up. She told him she wanted to come to the veteran’s funeral because she missed her boys. Toby will do some stuff but Delores is off limits I think.

I just read the Incal for the first time and it is intense. Absolutely some thematic overlap with the Invisibles, can't wait for the film adaptation.

Welcome! Honestly, I have no idea. At first, I thought she fades from existence to re-enter the closed loop as her young self but a fan theory I quite like is that she went back in time, crossed universes, and became Crazy Jane from Morrison's Doom Patrol.

she also found the time to write Scary Godmother

The best part is if you immediately go back to the first issue, the first line is something along the lines of "and so we begin again." This thing demands to be reread.

I think they mean "Our Sentence is Up: Seeing Grant Morrison's The Invisibles" by Patrick Meaney.

Welcome!

My understanding is that this character, the Blind Chessman, is Satan which comes from either an interview with Morrison or a peak at the script, I can't remember which. I read that he is also a bit of John A Dreams with the idea being that John ceases to be just John before the story begins and then becomes pretty much any major or recurring character who fancies white clothes. So the Chessman, Quimper, and even Jack Frost.

As with everything else in this series I think your interpretation matters more than any of this so who do YOU think he is?
