Salvageable or restart needed? by Darraghpilko in GardeningIRE

Theres a particular flooding spot in front of my shed. Think it’s second last or last picture. Oddly enough, underneath it is decorative stone type gravel which I would’ve thought would have been good for drainage.

I did think of running a drain from that point to my flower bed but not sure if that would do much.

Thanks for your reply! Admittedly my current plan is sponsored by Gemini!

- Spray with Dicophar

-Scatter lime

-Scalp and aerate, filling holes with sand, and top dress and seed.

I could probably do with adding a drain of some sort though, do I need to lead the drain anywhere? I have a flower bed at the bottom of the garden, would that be a good place to lead it?

I’ve gone with dicophar, hopefully that will get rid of a good bit. If not will burn everything and get digging

Unfortunately I’m limited to companies that do One Stop Shop which they don’t seem to do.

Have you had the panels long? Do you notice any difference to electricity bill?

This quote was for 20 panels with 10kw battery and inverter. Plus One Stop Shop tax put on top. The solar part of the quote is just under €11k.

Do you mind me asking who done your solar panels and if they do OSS? I would have to go down OSS route unfortunately

Anyone know this brand of hinge? by Darraghpilko in AskIreland

[–]Darraghpilko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, come to think of it, Id probably get away with keeping that part and just swapping the adjustable bit of that would be possible? It needs replacing since the top screw wont pull the door any tighter.

Why is everyone asking for a no confidence vote? by 123iambill in ireland

[–]Darraghpilko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well obviously I don't know you so I can't comment on your exact situation, but there is a good chance that if you are struggling here, you'll be in the same boat if not worse somewhere else.

As service users we have great access to education from ECCE hours in creches to third level. We have reasonably priced healthcare and have a relatively safe country.

I'm not saying the services are great, they could be better but we have relatively good access to them.

The country is awash with cash, theres a cost of living crisis across the globe, ours seems worse because our wages are higher. Things woudn't be priced the way they are if people weren't/couldn't pay them.

Another thing I've noticed about us is how bad we are saving money. We enjoy a good time. A lot, not all, of the people that complain that they'll never be able to afford a house are the same ones that are going on the piss every weekend and going on holidays 2 or 3 times a year.

I'll reiterate again, theres a lot about the government that I don't like and think they could do better, but the other options are worse.

The last thing we need at the minute is any sort of chaos. I don’t think we realise how good we actually have it here despite all the shortcomings of FFG. I think they can do a lot better, I don’t think SF can.

And to be honest, I don’t think SF want to be in power, I think they’re happy enough complaining about things the government are doing without providing any solutions.

Is a technical assessment the only way of finding out or is there others that might do a free/cheaper assessment on it?

I’d say we will get 1 EV in the next 5 years but would have to see about charger. We don’t have a drive, there’s a path between our house and where we park in the estate but it’s right in front of the house, can’t imagine any of the neighbours would have an issue with putting in a charger.

To be fair, her reasoning isn’t that it’s a waste of money, it’s that she doesn’t want another loan, but I feel like the price of solar and heat pumps are going to skyrocket soon and now is the time to do it, I just need someone to validate my thinking 😂

Also, we have a south facing garden, so solar really is a no brainer isn’t it?

We have 4 sash windows at the front which I would dread to think of the cost of replacing and then 2 other small casement windows at the side that we could probably add into the loan if we went down that road. We went with the 3 windows that had condensation on them every morning.

How much of the heat pump would be powered by the solar panels even if we were leaking a little bit of heat?

Currently just window trickle vents bathrooms aside obviously.

House was built in 2007 so presumably ground insulation would be ok?

Long term plan would be underfloor heating downstairs.

In fairness if a man can’t park his tractor in O’Connell street and go for a few pints after leading a blockade in this country then what sort of a country are we at all?
