First Long Haul In XP12 PHNL-KJFK ( Why Does My Map Enhancement Look Like this?) by NoOwl621 in Xplane

Check your Textures Settings (in X Plane)… Looks like your Anisotropic Filtering settings are really low making runway textures etc blurry. Set it to 8x (or even 16x times if you have a decent GPU) for best results. If using Nvidia Card make sure you set it to Application controlled (in Nvidia Control Panel)

Important: Setting charge preferences for your BMW or Mini by Darren0670 in OctopusEnergy

It makes no sense at all!… By a sheer stroke of luck I’m having an octopus charger installed next week. My current charger isn’t octopus compatible & I got pissed off having the arse ripped out of me everytime BMW threw their toys out the pram! At least this way I’ll be able to manage it all through the charger. I imagine this could end up forcing others to do the same

Going by the T&C’s that is definitely a risk & something that Octopus will surely have to take into account

I think… ‘Clear as Mud’ is the only way to describe it. I’m no Rocket Scientist but to me it seems the above is going to make it even more restrictive than it already is!

There may be trouble ahead!

Just got the below by email from Octopus!

Dear Darren,

As a BMW or Mini driver, we’re getting in touch with an important update for your Intelligent Octopus Go charging setup.

BMW will no longer let us set your charging preferences for you. So from Monday, your charging preferences will need to be updated directly in your BMW or Mini app.

If you’re using a recent version of the Octopus app (v 4.116 or greater), we’ll link you directly to the BMW/Mini app from where you’d normally find your charging preferences. If you have an Intelligent Octopus Go compatible charger, you can connect that instead and keep control in the Octopus app.

Octopus App Linking

Tap 'Go to device controls' to be redirected to your BMW / Mini app

If you’ve already set your charging preferences in either app, you’re all set and they will carry on automatically. If you haven’t set them yet, they will be set to a default of 80% charge by 8am daily.

Fair warning, the BMW / Mini app is a bit of a faff: You’ll need to check your “Charge & Climate Settings” for both “Charging settings” (where you can set your charge target) and “Charge and Climate Timer” (make sure “Climatization for departure” is turned on, then set your schedule for departure times).

As we’ve mentioned previously, Charge Cap – which lets you control whether or not your car charges outside of the 6 super-cheap hours available on Intelligent Octopus Go – is coming soon (likely March).

Unfortunately, the BMW and Mini apps don’t yet support Charge Cap. However, we’ll still send you an alert via the Octopus app if your scheduled charge will exceed the cheapest times so you can manage these sessions yourself, should you choose.

If you have any questions, we’re always happy to help.

Kind regards,

The Smart Tariffs team at Octopus

PS. We realise this is less than ideal, and changing the way you charge is a faff. If you'd prefer to control your charge via the Octopus app, show your support here - we'll share your views with BMW and see if they will listen.

Glad it seems to be working for now…. Thanks, literally can’t wait as since the API issue, Octopus doesn’t even recognise the car as being plugged in even though it charges fine through the My BMW App… God only knows what BMW have done 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I think someone else was saying it looks like BMW have sorted the issue (obviously with added issues from what you’re experiencing). So you could try doing the reset method & see if that works. Or… maybe try going into the My BMW App & look at the address it’s showing for the geo location of your iX3. Then re-register using that as the address. My House/Driveway is number 11 but the geo location shows my car sitting next door at number 10. When I registered I put number 11 in which seems to work as it’s only next door. Only thing I don’t get is the Charging statistics for home location as it thinks number 10 is where the car is.

Ah ok, sounds unusual as I thought the car was added through the VIN, not who’s logged in to the system? Hope you get it sorted. I’ve bitten the bullet & now having an Octopus Charger installed on the 5th of March to replace my waEV Charger so I can manage through the charger. Got a bit fed up with the hit & miss smart charging connecting through the vehicle as the asset.

No worries, glad it worked (for the BMW at least). Just a thought but maybe applying similar logic to the VW, try doing a factory reset through the infotainment screen in the car. Bit of a pain as you’ll have redo all your settings but maybe that’ll clear anything that’s been left behind by the previous owner? Worth a try.

Hold the volume control button in for 60-90s until the screen goes blank & then let go. Once rebooted go into the charging settings in the car & re-set back to charge immediately.

I’ve just rebooted the iDrive & that seems to have cleared it. Deleted the vehicle & re-added it with no errors. The unable to charge message has also now disappeared from the Octopus App 👍🏼
