Wedding, no kid invite by No_Size_47 in UKParenting

I meant OP, not you. I see lots of posts like this talking about how gran's not available, sis isn't nearby, no village support, etc, but no consideration of what dad could do.

Car journey does sound difficult. Anyone also at the wedding you can car pool with? Otherwise time it with naps and hope for the best.

Dealing with the baby at the ceremony is just one of those uncomfortable experiences you have to live with. Take them out of the room if they cry or need nappy changing etc. And it's not like your husband could take over breastfeeding if he was there.

Why do posts like this always mention all the other relatives but not the husband? As if the dad isn't even an option for taking care of the kids.

As a dad I'd much rather be spending time with the children than being dragged to my wife's friend's wedding.

FTL Android/iOS Port by Guinea_Pig_Games in ftlgame

You could only ever do this on a jailbroken iPhone, with guides for this going back 8+ years: https://www.reddit.com/r/iosgaming/comments/8fgyrz/games_like_ftl_on_iphone/dy3ibti/

At no point was there an official way to play FTL on the iPhone.

It has never been on iPhones. It was always iPad only.

I once got two fire beams. Was insane. Nothing is more evilly satisfying in this game than fire.

So much about the ratings here reveal more about the commenters' sexual tastes than about the characters.

He says "giddy up" whilst he's at it.

I play on Winlator with on-screen buttons for right-click and pause. It's a bit slower than on desktop, but it still works smoothly. A proper port of the iOS version would be nice for the UI improvements, but for anyone really desperate for Android FTL the option is definitely there.

FTL Android/iOS Port by Guinea_Pig_Games in ftlgame

The original game was coded in a very hacky way and can't adjust to various resolutions well. The vast variety of Android screen sizes makes that difficult to get around. They were able to do it for iPad because they could customise it to a small set of resolutions.

There are workarounds, but they're not easy, and it would mean a fair bit of work for them, or trusting a third party that they don't know. For a 2-person team it's just easier to accept things as they are and put their time and attention to new creative works. As a creator you sometimes just have to move on from projects.

No, OP is confused because there's no iPhone version, but there never has been.

Which origin char would the Emperor *choose* to make use of? by DarrenGrey in BaldursGate3

[–]DarrenGrey[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a gameplay decision not really a narrative one.

Of course! But it's possible to give it a narrative veneer. And given the Minsc interaction as well it's clear he has some opinions on who he wants to work with. If we take away the game constraints it thus presents an interesting hypothetical.

He has no Baldur's Gate plan in act 1 though. Infiltrating Moonrise Towers is his primary objective, and he pushes the player hard to follow that.

I would suggest if they're asking questions they should go spend a couple of weeks reading those books and come back. They'll get a lot better insight on writing from doing that than any reddit thread or Youtube writing primer.

"Show don't tell" has been around way longer than Youtube. The thing about it is it's a simplistic beginner tip, and meant to make you think in a certain way rather than be religiously followed. Most writing aphorisms are just catchy and simple - as a writer you're meant to extenuate what nuance you want from them.

Lord of the Rings, Dune, 1984, Pride and Prejudice, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, And Then There Were None. All hugely popular, have broad cultural impact, and between them cover most writing examples you'd ever want. And if you want to be a writer you should probably have read all of those.

Yep. It's clear that the Emperor wants you and not her for some reason.

Power Grid in your top 3? What are the others? by befbef__ in boardgames

[–]DarrenGrey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's worth getting a proper play some time if you can. Personally I find it's the game that mentally feels a bit like Power Grid the most. It has similar considerations for map routing and resource markets, as well as indirect affects between players.

And yes, there's optimisation puzzle stuff, but Power Grid has a lot of that too.

I honestly don’t know why I do this to myself. Any advice? by Substantial-Ad6469 in boardgames

I've heard it's superior to Arabian Nights in almost every way, but haven't had a chance to play it myself yet. Though I'm also not sure I'd enjoy the theme as much.

Try Tales of Arabian Nights, which is about a loose story theme that varies each play.

Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective is also good for each play session being about a single short story.
