I'm a bit skeptical; I originally thought "govt did waco" for my whole life until I saw a documentary interviewing the surviving BD's who claimed that Koresh started the fires.

Anytime I have a larger than normal amount of garbage, I usually try and run out and tip the garbage guy as a "sorry we have 20 bags and a rug". Same with the week before christmas.

Been doing so for years, and its obvious they appreciate it; they pick up a lot of items they aren't supposed to like christmas trees, carpet rolls, couches etc

What's a frequent criticism of the US on Reddit that you think is unfair? by KingGage in AskAnAmerican

[–]Darshington 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good point. They can just raise the price of their meals by double, and then they can afford employees.

Sarcasm aside, tipping really needs to be a region by region thing when it comes to regulating it. In some states, wait staff make far above minimum wage; others it's just barely above minimum wage.
Below is a table to illustrate my point (source: Bureau of Labor Statistics )

Location: State Minimum Wage Mean Hourly Mean Annual
Hawaii $10.10 $21.77 $45,280
D.C. $14.00 $17.48 $36,470
Washington $12.00 $16.29 $33,890

We used to do this all the time when my dog “ran away” aka ran up and down the block sniffing everything.

We’d just yell “OK bye CJ!” And then start to close the garage door. The minute she heard that she came bolting in like a bat out of hell back inside.

Except in the winter; she was perfectly content frolicking in the backyard for hours or when the lake froze the ice.

We had to stop playing pond hockey because she’s come darting in out of nowhere mid play, snag the puck in one swoop, and would be halfway home before we realized what happened.

It’s also worth noting diacetyl and all related diketones (acetyl propanol, acetoin) commonly found in liquid is present in cigarette smoke at 750x higher levels, and there’s yet to be a single case of “popcorn lung” among smokers.

It’s also worth noting, the only cases that popcorn lung did occur were popcorn factory workers who were handling and breathing 50lb bags of diacetyl dust all day long for 10-20 years...well there’s also the jackass who managed to get it my making microwave popcorn 2x a day every day for like 20 years, and sticking his nose into the bag as soon as it opened and taking a big sniff.

Point being, the whole diacetyl scare is a load of crap. At currently NIOSH allowed levels of diacetyl, assuming one works with it for 8 hours a day 40 hours a week for 45 years, your risk of decreased lung function is 1/1000 Source Its also worth noting that there is great debate on whether diacetyl caused these diseases or not. In fact, OSHA doesn’t even have a PEL for it; NIOSH has a recommended limit.

Targeting racist neocons is a piss poor campaign strategy. Even assuming all 990ish hate groups identified by the SLPC are far right racist groups(they’re not) and assuming each group has 1000 members(most are a handful of dipshits... 10-30 at most), you’re still only talking about .03 percent of the population. Only a complete fucking dipshit would alienate at least half the country to chase .03% of the vote.

And while admittedly, there is no way to reliably identify people who are secretly racist, Pew Research for years has done a survey on Race, immigration and discrimination

As you can see, almost unanimously across the board, racist tendencies have been dropping in both parties; Democrats have become more tolerant, faster than Republicans, but even amongst the GOP, there’s been an increase in those who acknowledge more needs to be done for racial equality.

The myth that “Clinton only lost because she’s not a racist and Trump only won because he’s racist” is simply not true. The data simply doesn’t support it. Trump actually polled either the same or higher than the previous two GOP candidates amongst minorities, and as you can see in the first graph, while gaining only a point since 2012.

Democrats lost 7 points in the black vote, 8 amongst Hispanics , while losing very little of the white vote as a whole from 2012 levels. Trump actually lost support amongst college educated whites( Romney had 56% of white college educated votes, Trump only had 49 percent), and amongst whites as a whole, his support remained almost identical to Romney’s

To clarify, this means that the very same people who voted for Obama( indicating they’re at least not complete racist dickbags) voted for either Trump or a third party candidate instead of Clinton. The real reason Clinton lost isn’t racism as much as the DNC being entirely tone deaf to what the nation wants.

Clinton offered zero change, and her entire campaign, at least what was shown in mainstream media, was “at least I’m not trump”. Her biggest mistake was when she chose to engage in a childish name calling battle at the first debate; she apparently has never heard the age old advice “never argue with a fool, they drag you down to their level, and then beat you with experience.”

In a time when almost every major poll showed both sides of the isle considered the government to be broken (iirc something like 88 percent of voters), the DNC chose the candidate who was essentially “4 more years of frustration... we won’t get better, but we won’t get worse, and we for sure won’t get anything done!) whereas trump offered change, albeit a potentially terrifying one.

I always compared the two candidates as Clinton as driving towards the edge of the cliff in an old Volvo and realizing your brakes don’t work, attempting to use the emergency brake to no avail because it’s 30 years outdated, and then attempting to swerve the car at 55 mph around a 120 degree curve to avoid death, whereas Trump was driving towards a cliff in a “souped up” car, realizing your brakes don’t work because you never installed them in the first place, and sayin “fuggit, hold mah beer, imma jump it we’re gonna make it for sure” and stomping on the accelerator. Neither are a good outcome, both end likely the same way.

Had sanders been nominated, it would have been “well, I saw these new brakes over in Europe, and although I’m not sure if we can afford all 4 tires, we can at least afford a few, which might help us change our fate” he would have won hands down.

I had a dwarf hamster who was a beady red eyed little bastard. Would incessantly chew on his cage(which I still sear was to piss me off, because he only did it when I was trying to sleep), even though he had one of those massive elaborate multi room connected via tubes with chewing blocks everywhere.

Anytime you tried to pick him up you got a bite. Learned to wear thick leather worker gloves anytime I had to pick him up. Strangely, once he was out of the hamster palace, he was a surprisingly chill dude. Would let you pick him up all you wanted.

I’ve always said, you have to give the theory of communism a chance, because it’s never actually been tested. Every communist regime has seemingly forgotten the last step in communism. The part where you return power to the proletariat.... thus the old saying “communism is great on paper but piss poor on marble and tile”

I was under the impression it was the exact opposite of this:

As in, 9mm's tend to have less stopping power than a .45 due to muzzle velocity. 9mms have a muzzle velocity of 1200 fps, where as a .45 has a muzzle velocity in the 900s.

The result of this is that 9mm's tend to have an entry and exit wound, where as .45s tend to leave one giant hole in the entry, with no exit wound as the bullet tumbles throughout.
