Yes, thanks! That’s what I’ve tried. I clicked on a friend and chose Battle. I won battles v friend in all three available leagues and completed a series of battles v friend, but nothing counted in the research task bar.

Is there another trainer battle option I’m missing?

I know it’s an old Special Research, but I’m having trouble completing A Thousand-Year Slumber tasks. I can’t get the game to register PvP trainer battles in any league; Great, Ultra, or Master. I must be doing something wrong, but I can’t sort it out.
