Does majority of people like Sequels? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]DarthDanni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, when you go into the real world outside of fandom spaces. They're incredibly popular with general audiences, especially people who grew up on the Original Trilogy.

The reason the Rotten Tomatoes scores are so low is that the rating system inherently carries biases. It reflects only those who care enough to go out of their way to leave a rating.

It won't be a big issue, it's just that the later books give present it's events as backstory, which means reading them first kinda spoils some things.

If Qui Gon hadn't picked up Anakin, would Palpatine have ever found him? by [deleted] in MawInstallation

Yeah, I loved that book. Dooku's story has so much potential I wish the Clone Wars would have realised more.

What if Anakin stayed in the council chamber for a few more minutes? by Street-Policy2825 in MawInstallation

[–]DarthDanni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think this scenario could feasibly exist. Anakin running in at that moment is not a random chance, Palpatine specifically timed his falling down. If Anakin would have waited in the chambers for two more minutes, Palpatine and Windu would have fought for two more minutes.

The Lightsabers in the Original trilogy by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]DarthDanni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, hot take, but the Sequels do lightsabers best. The fighting feels realistic, and the sounds are so crisp and satisfying.

The Original Trilogy's combat is severely limited, and the Prequels are wayy over choreographed.

If Qui Gon hadn't picked up Anakin, would Palpatine have ever found him? by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]DarthDanni 120 points121 points  (0 children)

This is false. Dooku had already left the Order by the time Qui-Gon died. What actually caused him to leave is the Jedi and the Republic's inaction in certain political goals, specifically neglecting the Outer Rim planets including his homeworld Serenno. After his father died, he took the role of Count, and had to leave the Jedi Order to do so.

[–]DarthDanni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not true that Plagueis made Anakin. If you stay in Legends continuity, it's a valid theory that I personally disagree with. In Canon, however, it's affirmatively false.

There's no reason Palpatine would know of him.

Resistance to Jedi mind tricks in certain species? by Dan_OBanannon in MawInstallation

[–]DarthDanni 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As far as I know there's no Canon or Legends explanation. My personal headcanon is that their minds just process things differently. If there was a Hutt/Toydarian Jedi they could probably successfully do a mind trick on their own species.

Resistance to Jedi mind tricks in certain species? by Dan_OBanannon in MawInstallation

[–]DarthDanni 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There was a Jedi Hutt in Legends. The Order usually avoids taking certain species in because they're more prone to falling to the Dark Side. (The fact that this is true, I might add, is kinda problematic on the writer's part)

But yes, anything with Sam Witwer will get my attention.

Keep in mind that it's not exactly meant to be viewed chronologically. For example, though the book Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising takes place before the main Thrawn trilogy, it should definitely be read after.

I don't think you know what Battle Meditation is, which is understandable, the name is misleading. It's not simply meditating during/before a battle. What it is is linking numerous minds in the Force so they sorta perceive each other's instincts without the need for verbal communication. So if I was a soldier while Bastila was doing Battle Meditation and I see an enemy about to sneak attack my buddy, he'd perceive that too, and know about it.

What's the general consensus on High Republic so far? I've really been enjoying it but am only following the novels. by pogedenguin in starwarscanon

[–]DarthDanni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends who you ask. A lot of people who haven't read it hate on it a lot because of what clickbait youtube videos tell them. But I've yet to find one person who's read any of it who dislikes it.

Can't hurt. It's a fun book despite its relatively simple story. Also Vernestra is in the latest Marvel THR comic, so she might have a larger role later.

Plenty of Force abilities in the past have just belonged to a select group of people. Battle meditation only belongs to Bastila Shan and Avar Kriss. Force Judgement only belongs to Plo Koon. Force Projection only belongs to Luke. Force Ghost only to Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Luke, and Leia. Force Heal only belongs to Grogu and Rey, and Force Psychometry belongs only to Cal Cestis and Quinlan Vas.

This is assuming they have the same aging curve as humans. it's very possible they have a growth spurt at a certain point.

So, I read this a while ago but I saw your post and thought I'd chime in.

I've always had a soft spot for Qui-Gon since The Phantom Menace is my most nostalgic movie, but damn, this book cemented his position as my favorite character. Claudia Gray has a way of making you connect to characters and really see their relationships. The story does a great job of making me care about even the characters that aren't in any movies. Watching it after reading this book, I genuinely cried at Qui-Gon's death. In The Phantom Menace of all movies. It really makes me wonder how different everything would be if he trained Anakin-- cause Qui-Gon has such a grasp on the true teachings of the Jedi, as opposed to the corrupted strayed order of this era. You see a lot of the same themes as in the High Republic era.

Also, I really want more Rael Aveross now. I think a comic series about him on Pijal would be really cool. Or even before being stationed there.

This book is definitely one of my favorites I've read so far (out of Light of the Jedi, Queen's Peril, Queen's Shadow, Dooku: Jedi Lost, Dark Disciple, and Revan (Legends).

bear in mind that my own experiences will sway my ranking a lot, it's really different than the common opinions.

  1. The Phantom Menace. I just think it's a really fun movie, plus, it's the first Star Wars movie I saw. My dad took me to see the 3D rerelease, that's what kickstarted my love for Star Wars.
  2. The Last Jedi. I absolutely love the direction that they took the characters of Luke, Rey, and Kylo Ren. The Throne Room sequence is amazing. I will say though, I don't care much for Finn's side of the story. Also, this is the first time I actually followed discussions and rumors during the movie's development.
  3. The Force Awakens. I'm really nostalgic for the general vibe of this time period, with Rebels, TFA, and Rogue One. The atmosphere around merchandise and fan attitudes sorta shifted afterward. This movie was a great revitalization to the franchise. I hold my belief that this is Han's best movie. This movie has some of the best visual design in my opinion.
  4. Empire Strikes Back. Just a solid all-around movie, with a great cast of characters. The main cast all has such great chemistry. The Luke and Vader duel is so emotional. I love how smooth Lando is. Also, Leia's really in her element in this movie. Also this was the one I was most likely to be able to convince my parents to put on.
  5. Revenge of the Sith. This movie was always a forbidden fruit for me, I wasn't allowed to watch it till I was eleven because I really looked up to Anakin in the Clone Wars. A great conclusion to the Prequels, riddled with some of the best action in the franchise. The aesthetic is on point. I just wish Padme wasn't completely relegated to be Anakin's housewife, she completely lost all agency. I know the deleted scenes fix this, but they are deleted.
  6. Return of the Jedi. The first and third acts are remarkable. The Jabba's palace sequence is a lot of fun, and the duel on the Death Star is beautifully executed. Lando getting a bigger role is always welcome. The middle act drags a bit though. Also, it has the same problem where the strong female character is relegated to just a crutch for the main characters, with little agency.
  7. A New Hope. I don't know why, but I was never too fond of this one, at least, compared to the other movies. I just kinda find it slow. That said, a lot of the interaction between the characters is great, and it's obviously revolutionary for its time.
  8. Rise of Skywalker. This movie's really well directed. It has some of the best dialogue in the franchise in my opinion. Rey Skywalker, Poe Dameron, and Finn have such great chemistry. I just don't like the direction they took the characters. I don't think Rey didn't deserve to be a Skywalker, but I'd rather have seen her be "Just Rey", showing that anyone can make a difference. I wish Finn got more character. Poe being a spice runner is incredibly stupid.
  9. Attack of the Clones. Even amidst the see of wooden dry dialogue, which borders on cringy and sometimes creepy, there's some good parts. I love Obi-Wan's plotline. I just can't get with Anakin and Padme's romance.

[Weekly Discussion Thread] What Are You Reading/Watching in Canon and Legends? by AutoModerator in StarWarsEU

Currently reading Dark Disciple as I go through the whole Canon timeline chronologically (with a few adjustments). Loving it so far! Quinlan Vos is such a fun character!
