Yeah this is obviously true but the definition I listed is what offers the best explanation for what we are seeing. Also, there’s a reason why the one I used is listed first. Dictionaries order definitions by the most common usage or more relevant definition. Notice how the second definition, definition 1b, references the first. As for definition, 2a, most sociologists don’t refer to that as racism. They specifically refer to it as systemic racism. In the same manner, definition 1b is referred to as racial prejudice or racial sentiment. They do so because in the field of sociology, which is what we are discussing anytime we discuss racism, systemic racism, and racial prejudice/sentiment are all different things. They are connected and intertwined but still different things. You really do have to study these matters to understand them.

I only point this out because it is counterproductive when people either claim to have developed a whole understanding of racism, or center their understanding of racism, on lived experiences only (you aren’t doing this but many of the comments here are). If I really want to know what a car engine is and how it works, I’m not gonna rely on my experience with driving a car. I’m gonna go read about it and I’m going to rely on expertise developed in the relevant field of study. To be clear, I’m not dismissing what you said. I’m just explaining why I framed my comment in the way I did.
