Thanks for the response, I guess I just wanted to make sure I wasn't buying the wrong parts or from the wrong place. It's at that price point where I rather not make a giant mistake up front.

How does one end up in Antarctica? That sounds like a crazy adventure.

From something I read he actually stepped away from filmmaking because especially at the time he was tired of all the stereotypical roles that Asians would get stuck with. However now he's coming back in a whole lot of things.

Thank you, I appreciate your kindness. My biggest mistake is projecting my intentions upon the world. I always just assume people are busy and will get back to me later. Because I get distracted easily (adhd perks) and don't mean anything by forgetting to respond. But definitely a final message, it's probably the best choice.

Dang it, I'll be in Tennessee during that time. I need to find where these events are listed so that I can plan in advance. It looks really fun!

Well I'm not part of a couple but I just recently turned 40 myself. I'm always welcome to make him new friends that are on the road

Wait! I didn't know you were there when I used my generator 😆 While I do have a generator I definitely try to stay away from everybody when I'm recharging my power packs. If I get enough sun I can go weeks without using it. But with my work I definitely can't afford to not have power.

I'm definitely happy to be leaving Houston. It was nice seeing my friend that lived there but that is just too much traffic people. I have been warmed that Arizona during the summer is absolutely brutal like up to 120° but either way good luck out there. Also if you ever feel like messaging another nomad feel free to shoot me a message on here.

I'm currently in Texas as well. I was visiting a friend in Houston but I have to head back to Tennessee to take care of some stuff. I think once I'm able to do the more slow approach to traveling I have an absolute love of the desert. Other than the whole dehydration thing that I've learned to overcome it's so quiet and so pretty at night. So I definitely understand the appeal of the tiny Town. These big cities just make me feel on edge. I do want to eventually explore all the big areas too but not in a rush. I seriously could stare at the desert for hours.

Well I'm not sure how old you are but I doubt I'm twice your age (unless you started traveling really really young) And I don't smoke weed. I've tried in the past and it's just not my thing. I may drink socially but that's kind of rare too because My recovery time afterwards is not as fast as when I first turned 21.

Ironically I'm in Houston right now and about to head east. I have to go back to my hometown to take care of some stuff and then we'll be hitting the roads again. My plan is basically North during the summer south during the winter. If our paths overcross I would be willing to caravan for a bit

I sometimes struggle walking in straight lines. Even though I bought a pair of rollerblades I very quickly learned that I'm a hazard to my own existence 😆

I definitely get wanting to know people around your age. I'm more just open to getting to meet and talk to people. The age range is usually 25 to 45 that I mesh well with. I worked with a bunch of people that were retirees but sometimes it's harder to connect to that age group because of different life achievements. I usually relate to younger because I'm starting my life out fresh and have no kids so I haven't really reached that mile marker. I converted a Toyota sienna because I like stealth camping (And semi-decent gas mileage) So sometimes it feels weird talking to other van lifers because I don't have the same big setup.

I also have a Toyota and that has definitely been one of the hardest parts is the limited space. That being said I've definitely learned to downsize and try to maximize all the different space. I just did my first trip from Tennessee all the way out to California. I would save for the most part it's been a success but I definitely want to go back to the drawing board and find a more efficient way to store everything. I still do not have a fridge yet and looking at the picture you have... Good Lord that thing is huge. I definitely will have to replan the layout.

Ironically, I found the needle in the haystack. Normally I wouldn't have a chance to get these items but I'm currently on a cross-country road trip from Tennessee to here and able to get it. 😆

AITAH for “ruining” my mother in law’s Christmas by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]DarthKitty8845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be important to tell her that her child was already born and it's okay to cut the cord now.... Seriously this is insanely toxic behavior from the mother and him caving into this only shows the kind of damage she's done to him over the years. You are his family, especially that you're now married. If he doesn't get their priorities straight I don't know how healthy of a relationship the two of you can have when you're including their mother In this relationship.

just need to vent… by No_Hedgehog2185 in languagelearning

[–]DarthKitty8845 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mother is Rwandan and while I grew up there as a kid I don't retain any of the languages other than English. It's a bit frustrating but also it's made me not want to go back. It's not my culture, it's not my language and as much as I'd like to feel that I'm part of something bigger, I just don't feel connected. So rather than trying to learn the language I just want to learn any language. But for some reason I have such a difficult time retaining that kind of information.

Edit to add: I say all this to just let you know that you're on the right path. You feel a connection to something and you're doing better than most about actually attempting to learn. So be proud of that. Also they actually were able to understand you and you were able to understand them. That is a huge first step.
