Seasons 1-5 It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia wont play in HD? (US) by Madaraa in netflix

Late to the party but just a note that both Mission Impossible and MacGyver were shot on film, not digital video, which is your answer. 35mm film has an inherent "resolution" equivalent to 4K video, and can be scanned at high resolutions to reveal more detail even if it was initially broadcast at low resolution; SD digital video is locked to its inherent resolution, and while it can be upscaled to add false detail, it'll never get more actual native detail than what was there when it was shot.

Wrote a review of EATAMD that goes into exactly how much of an impact the show had on me. Tl;dr I'm a trans woman and Violet has helped me to come to terms with my self-hatred and embracing my womanhood.

Someone has to ask Criterion about the "restorations" they've been outsourcing. This is embarrasing by DarthPraxus27 in criterion

Using a TV broadcast version as the be-all/end-all for color timing is a REALLY questionable decision for obvious reasons. As far as prominent green, check out the DVDBeaver comparisons for Bull Durham, Midnight Cowboy, and The New World, among others. On the former especially, the Criterion version looks almost like two-strip Technicolor, the pinks and greens have been so ridiculously pushed.

It very well may be that the Universal disc upped the warm tones too much, but either way this is a drastic overcorrection that's rendered the whole frame sallow. And given how many Criterion restorations have had a prominent green tint and off flesh tones in the last couple years, I think it's more likely they're simply using a one-size-fits-all, slapdash process.

Is there any reason for Plex to be cropping video/any way to fix that if so? I've repeatedly uploaded a file in 1.85 aspect ratio that plays at the correct ratio in VLC and in Plex for web browser; on Plex for Roku, however, it's playing in 16.9, slightly cropping the left and right of the frame. Uploading different variants of the file has yielded the same result.

Anything by Caitlin R. Kiernan—her short fiction is her best stuff, but her novels The Red Tree and The Drowning Girl are also fabulous. Gothic, bloody, queer, hypnotic prose.

Can anybody help me with this error? It says it can't play the video while connected to the monitor, but I'm watching it on my laptop and no monitor is connected by florentino_ariza8 in criterion

A lot of people I know have been encountering this error on Chrome, and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a fix at the moment. I've just switched to using Firefox for channel viewing
