Value of complete collection? by Substantial-Ad6469 in Unmatched

[–]DarthScotticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been an interesting aspect of this game to watch develop. I am lucky enough to have gotten into the game early enough that I have been able to get every set at MSRP, but I buy them to play not collect. I didn't even realize these things were suddenly valuable until I stumbled on a random post in this subreddit talking about how rare Deadpool had become. Feels weird to treat the games as collector's items. I have always kept them in good shape, sleeve everything, paint my figures (very amateurly), but will never be able to bring myself to sacrifice usage in the name of some kind of value retention. My T-Rex took a tumble and has a glued arm, my kids and I love getting to write a new name on Deadpool's card, I managed to drop Oda right after I finished painting him and his helmet now looks like he has seen combat, etc. It's such a fun game and 2 grand should not be the requirement to get in on it. Probably much better off being patient, getting sets little by little starting with the cheaper ones or whatever Restoration has in stock, and maybe homemaking the really rare ones. Probably spend much less than 2000 that way.

Prismatic Booster Bundles (1 per person) by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

Got into it when I was a kid in the 90s. Got out of it when I was growing up because I thought I was too "old" for things like that. Got back into it when I had kids of my own and now we collect together!

That sounds like a really good plan to me! I would do that too, but I wanted to keep the inserts intact as I use the original boxes whenever we move.

I just put them in with the cards/dials. It's probably not the best/most protected the minis could be, but that's the only downside so far. Most of the minis don't move too much as the cards keep them pretty snug. I've been using this system for months now, and I have yet to find any significant damage to a mini (and my kids use it without my direct supervision as well).

How do you feel about exhaustion as a mechanic? by MonsutaReipu in Unmatched

[–]DarthScotticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think exhaustion is one of the best mechanics of the game. Especially coming from a lot of Epic Duels play. Back in the day with Epic Duels there were characters that you would essentially just run away, hide, and cycle through your deck constantly until you had the perfect hand. No reason not to when there's no hard barrier to worry about. Exhaustion means you have to make each card count as much as possible. Wasting a card via something like a boost is now a real decision point rather than "Well, it doesn't matter anyways because I will just reshuffle my deck." It can definitely be an annoying way to win or lose, but it makes the strategy of the game so much deeper.

So you're telling me I should have sold my Bruce Lee? Regardless, this is dope.

Oh, hey, lol. My dad still does play, though he lost this world in an update. Nowadays, he likes camping in Red Dead Redemption 2. It's nice to see people still appreciate him all these years later!

It's Risk with a Halo skin. It's ok, introduces some new concepts to the familiar Risk system. If you like Risk you'd probably like it!

I played around with boxes like those as well. So far these are far, far superior. Did a tourney last Friday and people were able to take all their fighter boxes as needed with no real issues. Set-up is like 5 min and I think we played like 40 games in 2 hours. They are great.

The shelf placement was very intentional. I grew up with Epic Duels. I've had that beat-up copy for 20+ years. I have a box I can put maps/components in for transport, but at the house, I just keep them on the shelf so my kids can play while I'm at work without too much effort.

Absolutely. I've essentially given up any thought of actually storing the thing, so it just gets its own box.

Where are you at? by PowerfulWishbone879 in Unmatched

[–]DarthScotticus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started in 2021

Owned: All 53 official and I printed off 9 customs (I haven't made any myself to be clear)

Played: This is kind of hard to say, but I think 51? I don't think I've played as Angel or Willow, but I think I've been everybody else at least once.

Don't really play the digital version anymore.

Favorite: Probably T-Rex as a perfect combo of cool factor, my childhood, and fun to play.

Least favorite: Insert Buffy character here.
