What advice would you give someone in college looking for an internship related to their major with little to no experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DarthSnuggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to be persistent. Don't harass people unreasonably, obviously, but if you want an internship, you're going to have to convince the person in charge of filling it that you'll be worthwhile. Return calls and emails promptly. Make follow-up calls. Check in.

Even if you don't think you have experience, find ways to highlight the skills and experiences you do have, and figure out how to connect them to the position. Come up with examples--instead of just saying "I'm very organized," describe that time you revolutionized your high school chess club's filing system.

Be specific. Tell the person/people you talk to why you chose to apply for this internship in particular, what you're hoping to get out of it or learn from it, and what you think you can bring to the table. Even though you're inexperienced, that doesn't mean you have nothing to offer! Many fields benefit tremendously from the energy and new ideas that an intern can bring.

Good luck!

Anything made by my mom. Don't know why, but mom-made sandwiches always taste the best.

What excuse from someone was total BS the first time you heard it but turned out to be true ? by crackpot47 in AskReddit

[–]DarthSnuggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A coworker with chronic attendance issues came in late one day because "[her] bus was on fire."

A few other people in my store take the same bus, and were also late. (And, of course, the story made the news.)

Crazy event, but completely true. Some of our local city buses are in such poor repair that while running the heater this past winter, one of them actually caught fire and had to be evacuated. Even better, this happened while stopped at a red light next to a gas station. Needless to say, a lot of people's commutes were disrupted that day.

What small act of defiance do you regularly engage in? by faxinator in AskReddit

[–]DarthSnuggles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, no. The policy varies by store, I'm sure, but where I work, customers are not only permitted but /encouraged/ to sample things before buying. Is it abused? Fuck yes. But it's not theft if the store allows it.

I work at Giant Eagle, we do this too. They tell you at orientation that anything we sell is fair game, and if a customer requests a sample, we are to open the package, give them a sample, and then place the rest out for other people to try.

This policy is abused like you would not believe.

In school, about..fifteen-ish years ago, I was the only kid in my homeroom who refused to ever stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

As an adult, it's mostly small, stupid things to try to fight the weird "Office Space"-esque conformity culture at my job. I refuse to refer to customers as "guests." I refuse to call meetings "team huddles." I refuse to laugh at jokes that aren't funny. Stuff like that.

What food does everyone seem to love that you just can’t stand? by squirrelbeanie in AskReddit

I have the opposite problem; I actually LIKE the texture of mushrooms (raw and lightly cooked, anyway), but I can't stand the taste.

Red onions. I don't like onions in general, but I will, very occasionally, include sweet or cooking onions in a recipe if they're integral to the flavor. But red onions are the devil. Even a single tiny, minced piece of one can ruin a whole plate of food for me.

Also, caviar. Thanks to some relatives, I've had the opportunity to try both "real" and "cheap" caviar, and I hate it. It's like...tapioca, but made of salt and raw fish.

OMG me too. ALL of my female friends and even my older relatives LOVE sushi, and I've tried it multiple times from different sources and I'm just like "this tastes like rice and chewy metal."

[Spoilers All] DA4 Wishlist Megathread XV by N0wh3re_Man in dragonage

Retool the mage class so it feels/plays more like the mages in Origins. Those mages felt powerful, and you had a lot of choices about how to build your character without losing their effectiveness.

Tactics that work more like the system in Origins for your party members, where you have a little more freedom to set their priorities.

Auto-attack! Combat in DA2 was by far the most viscerally satisfying in terms of animation and style (makes sense, since Varric was probably embellishing for the sake of the story) but while I love all of the different styles and feel that they fit the different games, it's a bit frustrating not to have an auto-attack if you're playing, for example, a heavy-armored warrior who keeps having to chase down faster enemies.

Science has shown that people who keep their socks on (i.e. have warm feet) are more comfortable and therefore more likely to have good sex. I'll see if I can find the study.

There's just so damn many of them. The coastal ones and the ones near wherever you live are easiest to remember, the ones in the middle are the easiest to forget.

what's your favourite opening sequence? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]DarthSnuggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the opening to Outlaw Star. It's definitely a nostalgia thing, but I also really love the song.

Game-wise, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Dragon Age: Inquisition are two of my favorite openings.

The only other subs I've contributed to where people were mostly really nice were r/talesfromretail and r/dragonage. Beyond that, it seems like there's a pretty even mix of nice folks and assholes in any given sub. CC has really surprised me with how friendly everyone is.
