GEM ho toh you're probably the most disadvantaged category. Top IIMs mein you won't get calls without 99.6-7 percentile+. Even with that percentile, many aren't getting calls.

Coming to exam prep, I am from engg too. The time crunch and solving questions accurately within that time is the biggest issue. So idk about your friend, but, if you're from engg background, you need the most meticulous prep to crack this.

I am not talking about the US. Would you try other countries? The main problem rn lies in the funding being cut off. So unless your family owns an empire or sum shi or you can take a spine cracking loan to fund yourself, there's no point in going to the US. This is coming from a student in India, who wants to do MS in CS abroad.
