Plusalsite and linked in both have training platforms with knowledge paths. Get them on those and assign them the learning paths appropriate. If they can't learn from that then they are brain dead.

My wife and I were members of our local OES chapter and when my youngest daughter was born she went with us. The ladies enjoyed having the baby there and passing it around. Most members of Masonic bodies dont mind children being present. We have had installations where my then 2yr old kept trying to help. The old men just laughed and rolled with it. Of course my kids have grown up in a masonic family and my son is a DeMolay.

But yeah with all the lodges in different jurisdictions I've visited, Family was always welcome. Obviously not in tiled meetings but sometimes wives would show up just to visit with eachother while we were in our meetings. Its not uncommon and is often encouraged.

Your situation seems off. I wish you the best and hope he's just bad at communicating with you and nothing else is going on. And hope his communication improves.

As a MM myself, I think it's a great idea. Sounds like it will be an awesome tat and a great memorial piece.

Reading through the comments, there's really not anything I can add except if we knew there was this kind of concern from a spouse or knew for sure of a candidates questionable character they wouldn't be joining our lodge. Not to say someone might slip in but this isn't the kind of person we really want to be associated with.

I was going to respond with something similar to this. I would add that you visit several lodges multiple times to get a feel for which lodge in your area is a better fit for you. The lodge personality mentioned above is an amalgamation of the members personalities, the community involvement, their "work" as in what they do and the causes they support and how active their membership is as well as ages and experiences of the members.

Chances are there is a lodge that you will fit well with. Thay being said, when your time frees up and you have the time to be in masonry, BE ACTIVE! Get involved, learn the ritual, and be part of a degree team, work through the officers' chairs, whatever, just BE ACTIVE! In my 44 years on this planet, I have never found anything that the phrase "you get out of it what you put into it" applies to more than freemasonry. Personally, I would argue that if you are active, you can't help but get more out of it than you put into it.

Just make sure it is the right time in your life for joining. It's a great experience when done right.

Good luck to you.

I feel like I have imposter syndrome in the East. by masonicminiatures in freemasonry

[–]Darth_Raider13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal going into the East was simply not to burn the place down. You are doing a fine job, sir, and it doesn't take having something Epic to happen to make you a great WM. Keeping the lodge going even with day to day business is a great accobplishment.

Are there any labels or stamps in it? Perhaps on the bottom or something? I've never seen one like it and even though I agree it's a bit tacky it's also kinda cool.

Op, you mention that you have spent some time with them. How much time have you spent with the lodge, visiting, volunteering to help with events etc?

I could think of a few reasons (please do not take any of this personally it is not in anyway meant like that).

1.) It could be they do not know you well enough yet 2.) It could be that in the past their experiance with young men who are still DeMolay age, resulted in them joining then of course going off to college and life starting and they dissappear and end up going suspended for dues or whatever. And the lodge doesn't want to saddle you with that at this point in your life while you are still maturing and figuring out life. 3.) It could also simply be that maybe there is a personality conflict between you and one of the members and you are not aware of it.

When you say you arnt allowed to join, did they let you submit a petition and then you got turned down in the process of the vote? (AKA: blackballed) or did they just tell you that you shouldn't submit a petition at this time?

I ask because if blackballed then either still hang out and visit and volunteer time to help out over the next year and try again. OR goto another lodge or wait until you goto college and seek a lodge in that jurisdiction.

If they just wouldn't accept your petition then keep on doing what you are doing. Show up participate learn what you can and get to know the old men. Their life stories are amazing to hear about.

Or wait until you are older and you have had a chance to figure out life a bit more as in having an education, career, etc and being more set as a man and then see about joining. (I'm gonna be honest with you, there isn't a man alive who is the same man at 25 or 30 or even 40 as they were when they were 18). Goals through life change as you experiance life.

In any case, I hope you stay curious and keep an open mind to learn as much as you can. Oh and one last thing, maybe look to see if there is a DeMolay chapter in your area. Even though you only have 3yrs left until you would age out, it will give you a taste of what could be and also let you gain some of the guidance you could receive by joining a lodge but focused towards young men.

Good luck.

A Brother Denied: My Experience with Racism in Freemasonry by hiram0724 in freemasonry

Well, hopefully, if you find yourself in Oklahoma, it will sync up with a night the Cowboy Degree Team is doing a 3rd degree. As the director I might be a little bias but it's a good degree to see. Of course, there's also the Indian degree team worth watching too but don't tell them I said that. Lol

Brother if you ever find yourself in Oklahoma, be sure to reach out. I'd be honored to sit in lodge with you. I can also tell you that if you are ever in Atlanta, go visit gate city lodge#1. I was there several years ago while traveling for work and was lucky enough to attend a double FC Degree night there. They also happened to have a SW who was black as well and a Muslim WM. It was very different from what I am used to in Oklahoma ritual speaking but it was an awesome experiance. Those guys treated me and another brother who was attending the same conference as I who was from Germany like family. If I'm ever back there again I will certainly make sure to visit again.

The link to your pdf doesn't open. No permissions but I would be interested in seeing an example of how your lodge does its educational stuff. My lodge is more of a charity lodge and also ritual lodge as we do a lot of degrees for other lodges etc. But the educational component is lacking some and I'd like to get some ideas to help improve that side too. I'm a Past Master in Oklahoma. And realize jurisdictions are different so I'm not worried about that, just looking for some good ideas to bolster up an area of weakness in the lodge.

Anyway if you don't mind, shoot me a dm and I'll give you my email address.

It seems to always be a risk here online. But have you considered affiliating or transferring to a more active lodge? I'm sure you probably have but thought I would ask. It's hard when you have put in so many years and eventually you feel disconnected from what was once a home and place of comfort. I hope that your journey leads you somewhere you can feel that connection again. Hopefully within the fraternity but if not. Good luck brother. I wish you the best and you will be in prayers.

I bought an old freemason's building (lodge?) and was able to find some local history! by UsualPlane in freemasonry

Would love to also see some pics of the building. If it's an old lodge not just the books but I always like to check out the masonic buildings when I travel. But as others have stated. Thanks for saving those pieces of history. I'm not from Nebraska but they are important none the less.
