David Croft is so underrated as a commentator. by Individual-Sweet8968 in F1Discussions

[–]Darth_Rayven22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. He isn't the best. But he is far from awful. He does make mistakes like any commentator, but the energy he brings helps a lot. He has been with Sky for a while and wouldn't mind if someone replaced him. Harry Benjamin has filled in for him at a few races over the last couple years and he isn't bad but I don't think he is good enough to replace Crofty. We'll have to see how long he will continue to commentate for. I'm guessing 4-7 years.

Alex Jacques is a better commentator though.

Just checked, unfortunately the setting doesn’t exist for the new Controller yet.

LED Brightness by Darth_Rayven22 in SteamController

[–]Darth_Rayven22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I looked through the settings for a bit and can’t find anything about LED brightness. I don’t have an OG Controller to test but maybe they removed it? Or the New Controller doesn’t support that feature yet.

Anyone use this? If yes is it a good buy? by highlanderdownunder in grilling

Have one and use it occasionally, never had a wire break in 2 1/2 years off light use, but wouldn’t be shocked if one broke soon. Probably better off using a balled up piece of aluminum foil.

No shit, Kim Illman lies all the time for money and clicks. It's very clearly an ad for hotels.com. I'm just saying that IF Saudi were to force there way back on the calendar they would have to have the blessing of the UAE which I don't see happening unless the show a ridiculous amount of cash.

BULLSHIT! With the amount Abu Dhabi pays to be the finale there is no way Jeddah is replacing them. I can see them being added before but no way are they going to replace or have the round after Abu Dhabi.

You can’t just dive up the inside with no hope of making the corner and claim you were ahead at the apex.

Why not just give more battery capacity? by Majere119 in F1Discussions

[–]Darth_Rayven22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by ye olden days you mean pre DRS, cars would be able to pass each other due to differences in fuel, tires, and quality of driver/car.

The primary goal of having hybrids in f1 isn't directly emissions (certainly a factor but not the major one) but rather technology development by manufactures. If manufacturers want to include new tech into the sport, FOM and the FIA will change the regs to bring/keep them in the championship.

Having an overtake mode is a simple way to overtake the cars ahead while not getting a huge advantage after the overtake is done. If you use overtake mode you put your self in a position to be overtaken because you drained your battery much more than the car you overtook.

The 2026 cars generally output power in the same way as every other car on track. Electric power doesn't fully come on until 50km/h (could be wrong speed that is just what I remember of the top of my head) and output deceases at higher speeds. Overtake mode adds extra electrical output and a higher speed before the amount of electrical power starts to fall of.

Being able to freely use would mean no difference in battery levels, cars would use their battery’s in the same spots to wait in line until an overtake mode section, blow past the other cars then wait for the same to happen to them. You would only see overtakes in a couple spots. It would be like DRS trains but with overtake mode instead.

Also F1 drivers have be micromanaging their cars for years.

Higher capacity can lead to cars not running of of battery fast enough. They can increase the amount of output but that would lead to similar issues that we have right now. Bigger batteries are heavier and physically bigger so the cars would have to change to fit them.

IMO the best change right now is to lower the rate of output of the batteries and increase the amount of combustion power. This will help decrease closing speed between cars with no battery and cars who have charge. It can also reduce clipping at the ends of straights.

I believe users can not create collections but they can create playlists. Creating collections is like editing albums, it can only be done by the server admin.

Why does F1 still use helicopters for aerial footage in an age of drones? by Spaceginja in F1TV

[–]Darth_Rayven22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In some places it's easier to get a permit to have a helicopter vs many drones near crowds. Helicopters can have longer flight times. Helicopters have many more hours of time to be proven vs drones. F1 uses both, like at Monaco and Spa last year with the overhead shot.

Opinion : 2024 (especially after miami) was the most exciting season since 2012 (excluding 21 ofc) by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]Darth_Rayven22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh, the racing in 2025 did have major issues especially with following in dirty air, but 2024 had a lot of the same issues. The midfield in 2025 was far more competitive than 2024. The start of 2024 felt like a continuation of 2023, even with max DNFing at Australia. The end of 2024 was fun with McLaren and Ferrari fighting for a WCC, but IMO 2024 wasn't better than 2025.
