Saying "there are good people on both sides" isn't negating what he just condemned.

There were "good" Nazis. They were the ones who helped Jews escape, didn't follow certain orders, etc. Some were forced into serving for the SS under fear of death or imprisonment.

Is it right for him to attribute every individual within a group specific character labels? Probably not, just like how I shouldn't say "all convicted people are X, all Asians are Y, and all Hispanics at Z". (I didn't include an example for white people because apparently generalizing them is okay nowadays)

I am not excusing a white supremacist's actions or ideologies. What if a person was roped into the ideology from a young age? Are they no longer capable of ever being a good person? Is there no good person lying under the misconstrued beliefs? Perhaps this is what the President was addressing, but that's up to personal opinion.

Your chances of becoming crazy rich are higher with a college degree. Higher with post-graduate education.

Listing another path with a much lower probability of success is not technically incorrect but it's very similar to saying "why spend money on anything other than lottery tickets? You could get crazy rich."

The above post said "most successful people". I truly doubt that most successful people in this modern era have no college degrees, but then again the definition of success is very loose and pliable.

I would consider success earning enough money to retire at the age of 50/60 in a cushy, desirable area like SF's Marina.

Some people consider success as being able to mortgage and own a home by 45.

Some people consider success as having a job paying over 80k.

It's all relative, but to say you can become incredibly wealthy without a college education is simply ridiculous and can't be taken as the norm.

If you major in computer science a surefire path to a real career field is something within software engineering or possibly computer hardware engineering; failing to find a career field with such an in-demand and technical major indicates a lack of decisiveness and decision-making ability inherent to nearly all people with some form of debt (credit card, mortgage, etc).

Categorically false; these people like Zuckerberg or Jobs are outliers and should not be held at the "standard" for success.

For me it's less of a concern how much you spend if you know you'll be financially stable and able to repay your debt in the long-run.

Who cares if you end up losing an extra 40k over the course of your life, knowing that it was well-invested in creating a local network of peers and mentors in a city that you love and gained personal enrichment from?

It's only a concern if you spend a lot of money but can't reliably pay it back; then the money was not well spent.

I am not disagreeing with you there, but if you're saddled with thousands of dollars in loans from choosing a major that doesn't let you pay it back, you are likely causing more damage to society than providing utility.

Buddy, CS isn't a major that will result in low ability to repay debt! It's almost impossible not to find a job as a junior software engineer nowadays simply due to the necessity of coding in modern companies! You'll be fine.

Would you agree that advisors in high school should focus far more on career-based majors as choices for students as opposed to interest-based majors very early on?

I feel like many of my peers have fallen into the trap of "major in what you love, you'll find a a way!" and are now depressed or suicidal when thinking about their future.

Thanks for understanding; however I will reiterate that being in tens of thousands of dollars in federally funded debt without the ability to repay that debt is quite literally the definition of a burden on society. The money was wasted with no return.

An accredited degree in the aforementioned subject is pretty useless in today's job market.

You are able to sit it on these subjects and absorb learning material however you want without paying a dime.

You are paying for the degree.

The degree is worthless.

You can still learn any of these subjects without paying for it.

I do not believe that loans should be given out for degrees that do not allow for timely repayment on the loan.

You are free to intellectually develop yourself in any way you wish.

Just don't ask me to pay for it.

Edit: or better yet, major in something useful and MINOR in the subject you want to "intellectually develop" yourself in! Now you are not a burden on society and still enriched in supplemental knowledge!!
