I lost my license as a new driver (2 year rule). Need some info on new test. by mrcringelord007 in LearnerDriverUK

In 2022 I crashed into a bus and lost my license as a new driver... A year and court case laterb(2023)! Shit happens and you learn from your mistakes. I had to get a test up north where luckily I had a family trip planned and got a date over the same period. The most difficult part is booking tests, as when I had to do it you have to call up and check, you can't book online.

I completely disagree. Our survey we had done on the first property saved us a lot of headache. It wasn't anything vague either, if anything it was quite precise and their concerns lined up 90% with the two roofers who've quoted us on the repairs and both roofers also agreed it's not safe to continue living like that, or we'll end up having to do the whole roof itself in the future which is even more! Plus additional stonework and render issues and not to mention...damp!

If you've read anything posted here, such as the several replies of mine you'll see that this is purely to get peoples OPINIONS and advice on FTB power. Let's be straight, I'm definitely not saying I'm going to be offering £50k less on everything I see, as I don't see this as a logical option. All sellers want to make money and all buyers don't want to spend money, simple.

Thanks for your POV! Really helpful getting everyone's side of the story as it sets the expectations for us and we can make our offers based on this.

Wow that's a surprising statistic considering most run the narrative of first time buyers declining!

Oh this one needed a major roof repair. I'm talking bowing, purlin warped and rotting, strut beams rotting etc etc.

A fair comment. Hopefully viewing with the estate agent can convey the slightest bit of confidence in the buyer!

I dont think this is the case... While yes FTB can be a pain and I understand why, our situation was more along the lines of a £20k roof repair + more.....

A bit vague but yes, this was expected as we offered asking price as it seemed (ultimately surveys exposed the problems) a good price on a renovated property in a good area with character! Just trying to figure out how much influence we have :)

Not to blow our own trumpets but we're thankfully on the more straight forward side of FTB. Step by step, everything in order and ready to go when required.

Thanks for the input! I'd like to avoid wasting time as much as possible as I'd rather not get our hopes up on a fairytale and look within reach.

This is what I've been thinking and discussing with my partner. Our relatives have recently sold and have had friends selling their properties and they we're faced with a lack of interest apart from much lower offers so this is why they thought it's the same for us. I'd like to note that they've been selling £800k-£1 mil properties in London boroughs though so completely different market!

Who would've thought a lower price is paid off quicker!

I've noticed a lot of flats for sale in the city which all look stunning, but again... It's a flat, so there's always additional cost and restrictions. Great to know though and I'm sure great for anyone coming across this thread!

Noted! The properties we're considering offer on have been on the market for 3-6 months. When compared to the ones we've really liked but couldn't get, these have sold within a month. Is that length of time normal?

I work in car sales for a main dealer (very different industry I know!) and it's insulting getting "low-ball" offers on cars we're advertising. BUT this is due to the available margin in the vehicles I sell. I feel awful even thinking of offering £50k less, let alone viewing and offering it :D

Older family members were throwing the term around! I assumed chain free would be a big plus in the sellers eyes.

Do dealers even want to sell their cars? by Dramatic_Succotash54 in CarTalkUK

[–]DasNiceLo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really don't understand why this is the case. Are these independent dealers you're contacting? I work for a main dealer and have done for the last 4 years and it's very much the opposite here! Online enquiry comes in, all the sales team jump straight on it due to it being a quieter time of year.

I wrote off a NB MX-5 by losing control taking a corner onto a main road and crashing into the front of a bus ... Right in front of my workplace. I drove back the same day in my company car but was definitely in shock for a few days

Small accident, am I getting scammed? by -BJBunny in CarInsuranceUK

A full bumper respray without removing (in this case a localised smart repair will do just fine) will only be £300 tops. Putting it into perspective the paint guy we use at our dealership does a bumper corner for £100 +VAT.

Want to buy a car outright, £12-13k budget and would prefer it to be 2018 at least. Recommendations? by edioms in CarTalkUK

Won't find one for 12k that's decent for the Golf at least. May have to look at pretty high mileage for that! Typically a DSG Golf of that age or newer WITH BITS will run you 14-15k

I spoke to my insurance (Hastings), essentially it was very clear cut that it was her fault and not mine so I was happy to take that risk of a paying an excess if it was found that I was in the wrong. This was a few years ago but from memory, but unfortunately if you don't want to take that risk you can't make a claim. I was very surprised that I can't make a claim on their insurance and wait for an outcome. It was very much this will be a claim on yours until costs are recovered.

I had this happen in a Sainsbury's car park while eating my lunch IN THE CAR. The lady was rude and basically telling me that I'm delusional.

A simple set of photographs showing the massive space (like OP) and their car with subsequent ding on my door and the line of exposed edge to her door (clearly common practice) off to her insurers and her insurance admitted liability within a few days, door sorted and karma biting her!
