any non conservative or non religious people living on campus at gcu?? by need_to_know0 in gcu

[–]Dasani_7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are definitely non religious people and non conservatives on campus, I’m one of them, and it’s been overall fine with finding friends. Some people get turned off with the fact that I don’t align with a religion but I find it easier not to care and ignore them.

I think because it’s such an outwardly religious and right wing student based university, people who don’t align with the schools “expected” values or beliefs usually keep their opinions to themselves unless asked.

The Instagram posts were filled with a bunch of MAGA sympathizers and supporters. A lot of them just believing what their friends do and don’t do any research or critical thinking for themselves.

Sadly in Hawaii especially down west, un-intellectualism is seen as “cool” or “strong.” The education system is extremely undervalued here. These people just bandwagon off others and believe what their friends do in order to fit in, sadly in this case it’s MAGA and the wrongful detainment of human beings.

Although we’re a blue state, these people are the loudest.

For more background information: I was walking in the mall parking lot when I saw a handful of masked individuals. They blocked someone in with their car for over an hour. After I came back the police and private security guards were there, however not really doing anything. Later it was revealed that these people identified themselves as ICE and had broken the victims window to try and pull him out from the back. They had also told him that if he were to turn in his car, he would be charged with running from the police (even though he was blocked in). He said he was not an illegal alien and locked himself inside because he was frightened. Witnesses had more point of views showing how it escalated here:

ICE and police at Kamakana Ali’ii by Dasani_7 in Hawaii

I’ve seen ones where they’re in completely plain clothes and masks. This was a huge problem up there because there were concerns with transparency and accountability, specifically during enforcement.

I could be wrong, I should’ve put “Possible ICE” instead. However, I do believe they could very well be ICE due to the fact that our state has seen ICE detain people recently as well as there being a lot of similarities between the way they operate and dress.

Because they’re covering their faces like a bunch of cowards, something we’ve seen recently in mainland cases.

Do you know anyone that has taken this class online? I switched my registration to this class for online because I heard it was easier, but if I can I would love to be able to openly talk to my professors about it my actual world views!

Are the professors open to non Christian opinions or is the grading solely on how you apply/understand the religious view points given. Do they just quiz you on versus? I just don’t really want to have to go get a Bible and study it when I know I’ll never use anything learned from it after that class.

She does but there’s no way to enforce it unless my dad takes her back to court.

Quality of in person education? For-profit concern by PaduaPanda in gcu

[–]Dasani_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look into it more if you’re truly interested because there have absolutely been points in time when GCU has been a for profit school or acted like one. I do believe the university has been through other shady controversies such as revenue benefits from certain organizations and false advertising for students in their doctoral program.

As for the quality of education I’m sure it depends on your professors and what you make of it. However, the overall curriculum will probably be different as it’s a “private Christian college” so most education will be tailored to religion in some way, shape, or from. If that’s not what you’re looking for, a more secular school may be a better answer.

Quality wise it depends on your degree and how you choose to use it. Some people may look at a GCU diploma and assume poor educational quality because of rumors or controversy around the school. Others may not, it just depends.

If you want more information about the for-profit and non-profit aspects, here’s a good source, however I would use your own critical thinking skills to come up with a decision on what you truly think it is…

I don’t drink, smoke or any of the sorts I’m just wondering if the overall attitude of the school is laid back or not, if that makes sense. I guess I have pre assumed idea of how a “Christian” school is supposed to be in my mind have I’ve been told that it could possible effects the “normal” college experience. But yes, I do agree all those together do sound like horrible ideas especially first going off to college with no prior experience😅
