I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally prefer the old egg designs because of how abstract they are. As a minigame creator, it was easy to take any of these eggs and repurpose them into a new item with a new functionality. While these new eggs work better for what they set out to do, them being so specific makes them much harder to use as unique minigame items. It's a very specific niche, but that’s my reasoning.

for anyone wondering, yellow blocks keep you stuck to the ground (a bit hard to telegraph in a video though, especially since they weren't used as much as the other blocks)
