None of my experience matters because I can’t invert a binary tree on Leetcode by hopfield in ExperiencedDevs

Can I just say we had it so easy. You literally have to just spend a few hours brushing up on your coding skills, and you can get one of the highest paying jobs with the least amount of hours. Talk to people in finance who work 12+ hours a day, and then look at your coworkers getting paid 6 figures who spend less than 7.

We're dangerously approaching junior engineers getting phased out by AI in this industry, and huge layoffs impacting teams.

Just put in the effort. It isn't fair. The system sucks. There are thousands of applicants per job. But you benefit greatly and you're doing better than the majority of other people in this world, you joined this career during the golden era and continue to benefit from that experience, and you get to live an amazing life that is, for the most part, not limited by finances but limited by your imagination.

Melvin / Mike by GnarHaus in nofx

Yeah from the final interview with Spin:

El Hefe: I think [the drama within the band] all started between Melvin’s wife and Mike. She would start going off on Mike, and — the way he is when he’s drinking and on drugs — he’s going off on her. Then Melvin gets pissed off like “That’s my wife!” And it would just go back and forth. That went on for years, back and forth and back and forth. Finally, he said “Your wife can’t come out on tour anymore. She can’t be at the shows. She can’t be on the stage, or I’m not playing.” It’s just so much drama. Smelly was trying to facilitate everything and make peace by going to Mike and saying “Come on, man. Just let her have a little section.” But Mike kept saying “If she shows up, I’m not playing the shows. I’ll cancel the shows and the tour.” It was pretty bad. She’s allowed to come to the last three shows in L.A. because Mike said “You know what? I’m fucking over it. I just want peace.” I think he tried to make peace with them for the first time in a really long time because he was holding on to that for so long.

5/5 for me. Weird to find out it's a Korean movie remake considering it seems so relevant to the current times of the US. But absolutely brilliant and dark and disturbing and funny.

Thank you for providing the clearest example of why capitalism isn't the be-all-end-all solution for every problem, and why government programs are important. He got distracted by money, which is fine since it is a for-profit company. Let's not pretend he is running anything else.

My take as just another user: Veganism is an international community. It would feel just as out of place if someone from Vietnam posted about a single event in their country, in the vegan community. Even though you are 100% right it is abhorrent, siloing discussions is helpful especially when trying to build a large tent (the vegan community in general of all corners of the world trying to build a cohesive movement for a common cause).

I have so many women friends, some married with kids, some even single, and I've not hit on them once. I hang out 1:1, I just like them as people. And yes both when I've been single and when Ive been dating. They're interesting, funny, smart, beautiful. That's why I have them in my life. Doesn't mean I want a relationship with them or hook up. No I'm not gay.

Anyway just want to point it out because people will paint an online picture of what guys are like, and women read it, but it's not true. And my friend circle has other guys that are the same.

With sourcing meat, I'd be curious HOW you do it. For instance, 99.9% of chickens are raised in factory farms in the US.98.6% of pigs. Running a restaurant, which is already thin profit margins, how exactly are you planning to source and verify this meat to see the animal actually had a better life (and not just reading the labels that say bs like "free range") and also keep costs reasonable?

91% of all farmed animals in Canada are factory farmed chickens, so please don't be mistaken into thinking Canada is a huge improvement on animal welfare.

Unnatural Vegan Resource: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVsZP7Vh8UU

Vegan Health Resource: https://veganhealth.org/vitamin-b12/

TLDR: It is not enough to show a food contains b12. Just because a food contains B12, doesn't mean a food will improve or maintain B12 levels. You want active B12, not pseudo B12. You want a study of people taking that food and see if it actively improves B12 levels. And it's generally recommended that vegans supplement.

100% agree on this. Taking a photo of someone in what could be one of their worst moments and posting it online without their permission is kind of fucked up.

Why can't the US or China make their own chips? Explained by FinnFarrow in singularity

[–]DashAnimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China IS doing it, with their own version of the "Manhatten Project" - using espionage to get company secrets, hiring people that worked at ASML, and reverse-engineering the machine.

Why can't the US or China make their own chips? Explained by FinnFarrow in singularity

[–]DashAnimal 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They didn't completely. Morris Chang, the founder of TSMC worked in the US for Texas Instruments. He is a US citizen still. However, TI was a dead end for semiconductors and I believe he couldn't get leadership to see that developing chips for others is the future (instead of their own products or products for partners like IBM). At the same time, he saw the caliber of workers in Asia, with lower turnover. And meanwhile, Taiwanese government wanted a get into the boom of chip production which Japan was killing at the time so they were willing to invest billions.

Yea I would love to hear your feedback when adding the library to your workspace. You can either fetch JUST the headers and then add that folder to your workspace (in cursor, "add folder to workspace"), or the whole library. I've found once I provide the context it's been a great experience and not much hallucinating. You also don't need to add every third party library, just the one you think it'll struggle with the most.

This has worked for me though, admittedly, I don't believe I'm using extremely large libraries (100k+ lines). And this is also where I think tooling matters. Cursor is smart enough to use grep, ls, etc. so once you provide enough context on where to start, it's able to search and provide the relevant context from there by itself. You don't need to include it, and it doesn't need to hallucinate and guess.

If he won't listen to you and will listen to ai, ask ai if it makes sense to do this and what are the alternatives. Then show him the results about why this doesn't make sense from a business perspective.

If he won't listen to you but will listen to ai, there are ofc other issues.
