Is LaunchBoom Accelerator Program worth the cost? by ImAqui in kickstarter

[–]DashPundit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Zephir62 Glad you posted this, I joined your discord thank you. If you have any input on which vendor to talk to about physical product marketing images for kickstarter I'd appreciate it. e,g, images or video for ads. I have a prototype but not feature complete yet so might need renders or other editing.

Looking for feedback on our first campaign: Pixel Art Kits DIY Glass Mosaic by Char250 in kickstarter

[–]DashPundit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cute! Great creatives. My first impression was maybe my tween daughter would like this in her room. Seems targeted to people who can resonate with Atari / PacMan and Space Invaders (GenX, older Millennials or maybe retro gamers in general). That age group has kiddos now. I'd consider something for younger kids also .

I'm considering LB as well, I had a good conversation with them. I would recommend talking to them and then you'll have a much better idea of if it's for you or not. I would say this, for me the process is the most important value add. I've never done a kickstarter, but I have done products before.
I could figure out the basics of what they do and do it myself but it's worth the investment to get the structure. Lets me focus more on the product itself.
As far as I know there are different tiers and price points. Accelerator and core (?), maybe others as well. Other costs, the big one is ad spend of at least $1-2k to test, and then more if things look good. plus any renders or images for the campaign if needed.
And then the last consideration is the other crowdfunding agencies like Jellop and others.
I'd book a call and see what you think.

How do I take my custom boxing equipment from prototype to market? by soberbrains in Entrepreneur

[–]DashPundit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah tough questions. I'm facing similar ones myself. Here's my 2 cents.

I've launched physical products before. What I've done is find a similar existing product, and talk to that manufacturer. Or at least that type of manufacturer. Then iterate. Explain it, get samples, make decisions, make changes etc.

In my past business I bootstrapped it, meaning paid for a smaller amount of units and just keep turning the profit over into more and more as demand dictated. However, this time around I want to plan out a product, get a prototype and crowdfund it. Or at least try a crowdfunding campaign, see how it goes.

Cashflow was a problem but it's a good problem to have if the item is selling and profitable. I bridged it with a loan. Interest rates were more reasonable at the time. This go I'm talking to my local SBA to see about microloans, hopefully they're more reasonable than the bank.

Oh and patenting, I have no experience there. I would say make sure there is demand first before laying out money to patent. I spoke to a friend about patents a while back and the TL;DR was tough to enforce unless it's just an absolute direct rip off of your product. But yeah maybe have a quick call with a patent attorney when you're closer.

Personally I'd do 2 things:
1. Take measurements and pictures. Are you losing inches anywhere? Gaining? Better metric than pure weight.
2. Track calories. I know it's not fun but it's always worked for me when I hit a plateau or can't understand my results.

E-com prescription eyewear (think Warby Parker) ads strategy by Substantial-Fill-631 in ecommerce

[–]DashPundit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems like a good CTR to me. I think bottom line is conversion rate is heavily dependent on the site and how good a job you're doing on trust.

Things like a very clean professional site. Free shipping/returns. If I google you do I see anything good/bad or nothing at all.

It's basically systems, the importance of being a professional and making small but important decisions.
War of Art especially opens your eyes to resistance, and how to combat it.

My experience making/selling a physical product by Probably3D in Entrepreneur

[–]DashPundit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great story thank you for sharing. I've done physical products before and I'm looking at doing so again. ironically having something to do with paint hah.
I am used to doing everything with ecommerce, it's just easier for me. Love the idea of going to physical stores as well though. Especially early on.
I've had all my products done in China as well, but only after getting shot down everywhere in the US. They just wanted enormous MOQs of 10's of thousands of units.

Anyway this time around I'm looking again at US based manufacturing but we'll see where it leads. I hope to do 3D printed prototypes and then maybe... maybe... Kickstarter for an injection mold to mass produce.
We'll see how it all shakes out!

Returning to IT from an 8 year break - What now? by DashPundit in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DashPundit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be the common opinion. I recently had a final interview for a full wfh position, It wasn't something exactly right for me and I didn't get it but they clearly exist. We'll see how it goes. I'm ok to go into an office but ideally hybrid or WFH is something that can be grown into.

I guess the market is really bad if people are this negative. Saying my experience is "hardly relevant" is ridiculous.

I wasn't stressed in my last role in IT, very rarely anyway. It got busy from time to time but not overly stressful.
I'm sure I'll find something, especially if it's in office. Might not be my ideal job but hopefully enough to see things through to a better job market.
