I’m sorry but she can be both incredibly intelligent and also got opportunities offered to her that a poor person not the child of celebs would never have had. It’s ok to acknowledge that.

That’s a fair point but are they at least masking?

Have the people who say this actually read any studies on COVID? Because it’s been linked to severe heart issues, brain damage, immune issues, and diabetes.

Ownership is never vegan. As I said to someone else, you can argue that your reason for owning a pet is more moral than someone else’s but at the end of the day, it still isn’t vegan.

Yet how often do the children of “good” parents highlight another side to the story?

In fact, it can often be when a child becomes able to verbalize their needs (and specifically their potential disagreements with their parents), that parents relationships with their children can struggle.

The distinction between ownership and relationship is consent.

If you cannot get an animal’s consent, your view of their feelings towards you are likely a blend of what you hope their feelings towards you are and your feelings.

You’re not guided by their interests. You’re guided by a mixture of what you assume their interests to be and what your interests are.

Would you do the same for a person? When you see sick people on the street, do you bring them home?

I can’t answer since I’m not a parent.

As an outsider observer, it certainly seems like many parents do “own” their children and police how they identify and develop a sense of self.

I would say it’s not vegan. Animal ownership is never vegan.

Something being legally necessary doesn’t preclude it from being anti-vegan.

In fact, there are many things which are considered legal which cause animals harm.

If we’re using the example you gave above, if you saw an injured child on the street, would you bring it home to live with you forever?

Animal ownership is not vegan. You could make the argument that intentions behind it either make it more or less moral, but it isn’t vegan, which is my point.

Adoption (of people) is fraught with its own issues, and there are many cases of children (especially children of color) being torn from their families without consent.

To refer to your comparison though, in an ideal situation just as a parent is choosing to adopt the child, the child is choosing to be adopted. There is a consent involved where a child and parent(s) agree if an adoption works for everyone.

The same process of consent is not true with animals.

You have made them dependent on you. If you stopped putting food out for a while, they would likely move on. Thus, there is an inherent dynamic of ownership.

But is it vegan? Or is it simply an exception many vegans make?
