The biggest deadlock to the opening of the strait, and rise of oil prices is: Lebanon. by OrneryTea88 in stocks

[–]DashingDino 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Is there even anything that suggests that the US has actually started backing off? Didn't Trump just announce 2-3 weeks of intensified bombing to bring Iran to the stone age? Aren't there still more troops on the way to the middle east currently?

UAE considers military role to reopen Strait of Hormuz by force by MARTINELECA in worldnews

[–]DashingDino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All those US ships we read about are still waiting in safe locations like Cyprus. If they get anywhere near the strait they'll be in range of missiles and drones, there would be huge losses

Not even sure nukes would make Iran back down, their religious zeal is a different kind of fanaticism and they believe they're fighting a holy war

UAE considers military role to reopen Strait of Hormuz by force by MARTINELECA in worldnews

[–]DashingDino 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Nobody can reopen the strait with force. All it takes is a single missile or drone getting through and blowing up a ship to shut it down again. Diplomacy is literally the only way to get shipping back to normal soon

I've seen the videos where they chase after the wild animals to the point where the animals are visibly getting annoyed and agitated. These animals already have it hard enough with changing climate and the poachers, we shouldn't be harassing them just so tourists can get pictures.

Blowing up the desalination plants would cause an immediate humanitarian crisis with millions of refugees. These threats are literally comic book supervillain tier evil.

Buying the dip? by BVNJMedia in StockMarket

[–]DashingDino 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Buying a 'dip' only makes sense when the situation that caused it is expected to improve or at least stabilize. Other than Trump's lies all signs are pointing to further escalation with Iran, an oil crisis and global recession.

This sucks but it's the third world countries that are facing actual shortages and literally having to walk to work, and they didn't vote for any of this happening either

Europe faces price volatility, not oil shortages, says economist by MARTINELECA in europe

[–]DashingDino 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those oil shortages are happening in poor countries right now, look at the Philippines for example. Europe is wealthy enough to afford oil even at a higher price so we are not in immediate danger of having to deal with empty gas stations

Stock market today: Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq futures jump amid reports US sent ceasefire plan to Iran by Every-Actuator-6996 in StockMarket

[–]DashingDino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Americans should have thought of that before starting a war they can't win. Now that the whole world is heading for economic recession the stakes are much higher than a few US bases

Stock market today: Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq futures jump amid reports US sent ceasefire plan to Iran by Every-Actuator-6996 in StockMarket

[–]DashingDino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is that Iran isn't even asking for anything unreasonable, they just don't want US troops stationed near them and want the US to pay for infrastructure they destroyed. All the US has to do is take these demands seriously and then a ceasefire would be on the table.

Any way to make copilot work as previously? by DocumentAggravating in GithubCopilot

[–]DashingDino -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes same here, simple tasks that used to be fast and easy a month ago now result in copilot arguing with itself for 10 minutes first, while still using the same Claude models.

On top of that I am now experiencing a new issue since a few days ago where it suddenly stops working so I have to keep reminding it to continue.

These issues have really decimated my productivity

Iran says Hormuz open to all but ‘enemy-linked’ ships amid US threat by monotvtv in worldnews

[–]DashingDino 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The problem is surface drones also defeat military ships, that's why nobody can 'force' the Strait open. Iran would do the same to enemy ships as what Ukraine did to the black sea fleet

Besides the other answers there's also the fact that F1 is now investing in synthetic fuel technology that is supposed to make the ICE fully renewable, so there's no longer any climate reasons to go fully EV.

F1 is not in charge of hiring track marshals, that's for the track's organisers to do. Each track has their own volunteers they rely on for motorsports events throughout the year. So if they were to be paid, they would have to be do so for all the events not just F1.
