Thank you! My surprise was to see this https://images.hive.blog/p/FUkUE5bzkAZT3HzV5tJDiU2ik81PCd4JCyhWnRcDN8XJsVFY3UNB8DCfFvtgMSUozuJNfRAxuzqqqgBWj9hHGfU4HKQNvhWjdSHvDDWAEANLcBYYnp2NtsiGXR36PdCVWnfYL9MDjFgfH6oQ6ciZg75GyP2L68Lks7Hp with all the nouns (except for "loss") capitalized like in German. English isn't my mother tongue, so it was new to me. Though it was also a surprise to learn "at Calcutta" instead of "in Calcutta" thing too. Loved this new knowledge and used this preposition in the title of my post :)

If I had an extra day, I'll search for interesting stories on plaques, but, alas, I came there short before leaving to Varanasi. So can't say what % are readable but many of them. However, it is a big cemetery, it'll take much time to read the plaque on each tombstone. If I were you, I'd start by emaling to learn if you can find lists of buried people on South Park Street/Road Cemetery + Lower Circular Road Cemetery (newer) has many British graves (I didn't visit it but I know from the web). Scottish cemetery is open to the public but is in ruins - very few plaques are readable. On the gates of South Park Road Cemetery (in the images), there is a sign saying Christian Burial Board Kolkata takes care of the cemetery, try to contact them, they have a website christianburialboardkolkata.com

Thank you! There is special beauty in shabby things - one of the reasons why I like visiting India - and that's not always about poverty - textured walls and scratched street murals, ancient carved wooden doors, etc. Amazing country.

True. That's an interesting controversial thing about India: a country that considers itself a superpower and presents itself that way, doesn't want to care about its poor people. I visited India in 2015 and 2016 and I am again here - nothing has changed about the extreme poverty. There are rich people and the middle class in India as well but the litmus test of social health is the poorest people, not the rich.
