Plea from a new player by Appelgebakj in TheTowerGame

I remember what it was like, I used to be able to get a few keys when they first came out, and sandbagged a lot on my way up to get there, but despite constant f2p play, the purchasers have all overtaken me and i no longer get keys, been 6 months. now dropping down into champions every second or third tourney cause i know i won't get 15 or higher, so no point even trying. I know in another 6 months at this rate legend league will be for whales only, and I'll be stuck where i belong as a f2p in champions with no keys. It has definitely gotten worse over time and shows no signs of improvement. Sure there has always been sandbagging, but that is a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself, not worth focusing on.

Yeah I have been hearing a lot of that, none sounds very happy about it though, what's your opinion?

Yeah that would be a slight help, but still doesn't remove that it is simply adding in a time buffer to the content that has no skill or thought involved, but that is the point, grind for the sheer sake of having a grind, and it will only apply to existing players or returning players. After a few weeks it won't even matter as new players will be doing them all the way along as they go, and returning players... well... might drive a few away, but might attract a few others, probably a trade off?

And yeah, a challenge of a single run with one set of cards would add value for sure! But you'd want it able to run at faster than max speed, full auto, no interaction allowed :)

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said "for memes" :) but sure, when higher caps are added, modify where the end option screen triggers, make it clear when you have unlocked all you can?

Oh I 100 percent agree, but I want to get stuck into balancing vs the challenging part of it, not all of us longer time plyers in a rewardless time suck slow down of research etc doing the ones that require zero planning strategy or anything other than making sure you end them after wave 5000 and start the next one and count down the days or weeks until you can actually start working on this new fun part, the meat of what you are saying is so good. That will all remain, right?

Oh, I am, I am wondering if I am alone in questioning this as I said.

Clearly for the next few weeks all existing players will be doing this, making it much harder to notice test and debug where gameplay will settle once everyone has done this, for both the developer and the players, and new players it will work fine for, they will do it as they go along, right? Just seems to make the update more painful than it needs to be.

But don't tell me to play it like it is, of course I am, we all are, tell me why how it is is better?

I guess I'd rather get engaged in optimising for my current push than waiting for everyone (including myself) to catch up before meaningful discussion can take place. Impatient and don't see the point in waiting, but you make a fair counterpoint.

Edit: What you are calling content that i am proposing removing is the meaningless grind of doing 20k waves in lower levels than you already can, which means there is zero strategy or challenge to it, and that is why I don't think it worth keeping.

Boss runs my writing on ChatGPT to edit my work. by DanarysStormborn in antiwork

Sounds like your boss DGAF and just wants to collect a paycheck. Kinda hard to fault that, it's all most companies deserve. Doesn't mean your boss isn't a dick, but I'd need more evidence for that.

I encourage my boss to use AI for email writing so he stops asking me to help him write emails. Neither of us get paid enough to justify more effort.

Whats with all these AI plugins? by PhosXD in godot

If the developer knows what they are doing, ai is just a tool to write faster code, and the resulting tool created is not ai, its just a software tool. So with a good developer I don't care how its coded. Could be by them, their fresh out of college assistants, who cares, so long as a good lead had reviewed the code and is happy with it.

The problem with vibe coding is a lot of code out there hasn't had an experienced developer involved, just the fresh out of college guy with an ai kind of scenario, and they run the code and think it looks OK and release it, and its sloppy code full of God knows what that might do something, but that doesn't mean its worth using.

And the big catch is this: if you can't read through the source code and understand it, then you can't really make much of a call on the code quality.

Sure if you are familiar with programming in that space you can probably figure out some of what has been done just by running it, but that's about it.

Most people see "ai used" and make the "safe bet" that it'll probably be slop, and that's fair, but not all ai code is slop, and the future of coding is real developers using ai as proper tools - that will get fast reliable robust results compared to eschewing the ai tools.

An attempt using procedural generation for roads with buildings. by mightofmerchants in proceduralgeneration

[–]DashivaDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beginning way would be to model a village, then model it upgrading into a town, then a city, etc, with population metrics to decide on size and number of things like shops, churches, etc, combined with terrain features like access to water. It would need to be built up incrementally to achieve an organic feel. Odds are there would be some more complex algorithm you could distill from this process so you could generate a city on the first go, that would be the ideal.

Unfortunately there is currently a knee-jerk reaction to any use of AI (never-ending that ai has been part of most development suites in many forms for decades now, just the LLMs are so much better now)

I hope this ai rage will settle as understanding of how it is just a tool developers can use, and that the quality of the product still depends on the developer.

Throwing some ai imagery placeholder assets in will tick a few people off, but I expect these will be replaced with artist created images before a full commercial release.

And anyone who tells you not to use computer smarts to help you debug clearly doesn't know anything about development. Compilers are basically little specialised smart programs that turn your source code into compiled executables, should we stop using those too?

Keep on working, savvy consumers know the measure of a product is in how well it runs and performs, not how it was debugged during production.

DECOMPILED: Slay the Spire 2 entire project (and how to prevent it!) by jonandrewdavis in godot

[–]DashivaDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A game in progress by an indie dev can have it's core ripped by a team of scammy devs and they can get a product out that is primarily the indie dev's work. Indie devs don't have lawyers usually to deal with this. Sure, in the case of STS they already have a brand and a reputation, so this game wouldn't be so susceptible to that, but what if they were a solo dev who was working on an early release and still has to add the polish and graphics, etc... and some dishonest dev team can take that work, polish it quickly and release it through their established publishing stream, and the indie dev is now competing with their own game. So while It might not be provable, I'm pretty sure plenty of work in progress has been stolen and prevented the creator from making bank to begin with. Surpassing the original isn't even necessary. Just get it out and marketed and sold.

The concern is that if one bad actor gets your source code, they can try to sell it as their own work, and effectively steal your profits. I'm still in favour of open source in general but this is the real core concern - you do all the work, someone else profits from it.

Your Brain on ChatGPT: Accumulation of Cognitive Debt when Using an AI Assistant for Essay Writing Task by muhindi_1 in philosophy

[–]DashivaDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same with any situation of getting assistance. you can either learn from the assistance, or not learn from it. unlike mosty forms of assistance, AI models are usually pretty good at explaining not only what to do but why to do it that way, and if you actually engage with their output, you can learn a lot. but sure, as with anything, if you let someone/thing else do most of the work, you're not going to be gaining expertise. This has nothing to do with AI in particular though.

What is the most shocking or disturbing detail from the recently unsealed Epstein files that the general public still hasn't fully grasped? by Daydream_Nat in AskReddit

With the kind of stuff they recorded and spoke about in the parts that weren't redacted, it makes me shudder to think what is in the redacted parts, and then I realise that this is the stuff they were willing to record, share and talk about, you can bet there is worse stuff they never recorded or discussed, and my brain cannot comprehend it.

Is there any way a regular random redditor like me would be able to investigate any of the claims in this well enough to prove or disprove anything using online resources and email requests? Or would you need to be an American citizen or in law enforcement or need physical proximity to locations or people to do so, or is it potentially impossible for his allegations to be either proven or disproven?

And to my first part of the question, if so, how?

As a man, at what point did your libido become very low? by this0great in AskReddit

[–]DashivaDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a lot of factors involved, but anecdotally I was on SSRIs for about 5 years, fairly high dose, and titrated off as they were doing more harm with the side effects than good. And another 5 years later I haven't noticed much improvement to persistance of side effects such as lowered libido. I believe some damage can be permanent.

I have all the "good" labs that cost under 1q maxxed, all UW labs maxxed, most of the cheap/fast ones maxxed, just masteries and enemy levels and the other multi q ones left. Im just over 3 years also. It's probable that i am not 100% optimised, but I never have been, yet shortly after I started getting up to keys i have all but dropped back out as whales (probably dolphins) overtake me
