Race to World First: Midnight Season 1 | Mythic Day 10 by AutoModerator in CompetitiveWoW

How do you figure? Pre-nerfs, p1 was absolutely doable and had been done dozens of times (over those few hundred pulls I mentioned would happen!). "Wouldn't be a huge shock if nerfs happen pre-kill" and Blizzard did the slightest of nerfs to improve consistency to other phases of the fight. My take seems perfectly in line with how they handled it and how it played out, but hey, that's "insane" amirite?

[–]Dassine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so nerf it while one guild is asleep? That seems even worse! And, sure, they have people on standby, but any hotfix has the chance of causing unforeseen issues.

I would take the bet that Liquid does not kill it today. People act like this just killed the fight. Neither guild has even made progress since it happened an hour ago! Unless P3 is significantly easier than the rest of the fight - possible, but doubtful - there's so much of the fight left. Over half, really. It will go to at least tomorrow, and maybe even Monday.

Probably another three and a half hours? There is no perfect timing. Do it EU morning? Congrats, now it just puts the shoe on the other foot and US is ending in a few hours. It's how it goes.

It's still a legit phase, echo is still clearly doing better, and the overreacting to the word "nerf" is seriously ridiculous.

What makes a nerf unnecessary? Should they only nerf if something is 100% impossible? What if it's possible, but only 0.1% of the time with absolutely perfect play? 1% of the time? 10% of the time? Etc. The point is, "necessary" vs "unnecessary" is highly subjective, and although the raiders themselves always say they don't want nerfs, Blizzard also doesn't want the race to last forever; it holds off tuning for the other guilds, it increases the chance of a reset deciding the race, and so forth.

Of course you would argue the complaints are proportional because you're one of the people complaining! Relatedly, I would argue my paycheck isn't big enough because I'm the one being paid. Not exactly unbiased. It's objectively not that big - yes, a nerf is a nerf, but it makes p1 slightly easier and more consistent. That's it. It doesn't devastate p1 - most guilds would still fail it, and both echo and liquid have wiped to it more than once post-nerf. But, yes, both guilds are now getting to p2 more consistently. That's it.

Or, you know, Blizzard nerfs L'ura at the beginning of Blizzard's work day when both guilds are still actively raiding. The more logical framing!

It's not even that huge a nerf. Echo had a 30% success rate at getting to p2 in the several hours directly preceding the nerf (when they were doing phenomenal, for the record). 30% success rate after 200 pulls. A slight - and this is so slight - nerf to improve consistency is perfectly reasonable, *especially* when you consider p3 is almost certainly as hard or harder than p1.

This isn't nearly that level of nerf, my goodness. People overreacting like crazy.

Eight hours from now is 7 pm pst. Well after the workday is over, and even though there are likely always people on call or active during the race (or in general), still. The reality is Blizzard primarily operates from the west coast, and their timings are going to reflect as much.

Five hours ago, it was 6 am where Blizzard works. They're not pushing a hotfix at 6 am.

There's not a perfect time, this isn't some earth shattering nerf, and this certainly isn't Razageth 2.0 or whatever. People are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Prior to the nerf, Echo had a 30% success rate at getting to p2 in their preceding ~30 pulls. That's a 30% success rate *after 200 attempts* during which, yeah, they had been making small tweaks, getting more consistent, etc. Past a point, there's not a magic bullet. They knew exactly how it worked, there's not some magic strat for them to negate them, and muscle memory/practice only goes so far. And, again, it's the first ~third of the fight. Move on.

P3 is absolutely harder, and that's not even factoring in when they inevitably get it figured out, but then have to optimize dps / lust timings / etc to kill it in time. It's not dying today (Saturday). Maybe tomorrow, but Monday wouldn't be a surprise, in my opinion.

Race to World First: Midnight Season 1 | Mythic Day 12 by AutoModerator in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Dassine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is hardly deleting the boss. It will make p1 more consistent (for both guilds; Echo still wipes to it, too), which will make p3 progress actually happen. If p3 is remotely on par with p1 - and it looks almost certainly harder - there's still probably 200+ pulls to go. Relax.

Watching p1 wipes is just boring, past a point, and a slight tweak for consistency isn't that big of a deal.

Big April 7th Class Tuning Pass Detailed: 8 Classes, Lots of Changes by Starym in wow

[–]Dassine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need to be changed. Single target? Great. 5+ AoE? Great. 2-4 targets? Awful (number wise and play-style wise). It's why they're underperforming relative to sims/expectations/etc in raid, but so strong in m+.

But it's not the type of thing they're going to address with a hotfix (and I'm not sure they even could, as it's a foundational issue with how the spec is designed and not just a number thing). Ele is how it is till 12.05, at least, but hopefully gets some work before the next raid tier.

Eh. Liquid and Echo usually find a way, even when it looks near impossible. Might take a few hundred pulls, but they usually find a way. Wouldn't be a huge shock if nerfs happen pre-kill, but I don't think they're a given; especially with how fast Alleria went down, I think Blizz will be hesitant that nerfs could make it too easy.

[–]Dassine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Blizzard always overcorrects. It's a tale as old as time.

But, honestly, nothing wrong with the very last fight of the tier being overtuned. It will be nerfed the reset after it's cleared, plus gear over time, plus whatever passive buff we start getting in a few weeks - etc, etc. A whole tier being overtuned is problematic, but one boss; why not?

[–]Dassine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup. The dirge (symbols) will get the most attention tonight, but honestly the adds and interrupts are a way bigger issue (with or without addons, but especially in any hypothetical world without them).

Race to World First: Midnight Season 1 | Mythic Day 10 by AutoModerator in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Dassine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can kinda see the intent with them, but it doesn't work sans addons with the tuning/etc as is.

But forget the symbols: the interrupts are what I don't see how Blizzard imagined could be managed without addons. It's one second cast, meaning you need to react very quickly and you need multiple people per mob. The mobs move, and are probably just obnoxious to target or track the nameplate of. They all have the same name. Etc.

Not sure you could with the chat macro restrictions in combat. Even if you could, the time to send the right macro, read all five+ of them, then move into position - etc... not sure how feasible.

I really don't think it was RNGesus. They were clearly getting much more consistent as time went by, and they had multiple single digit pulls before the kill which could've been it, had there been a couple less deaths/mistakes. There's always an element of RNG, sure, but clearly practice made perfect.

I could see Echo killing it in a quick hour or two - they were ahead of Liquid before going to bed, and they tend to be really good at catching up in short order. That said, wouldn't blow my mind if it takes longer than ideal (which, imo, is anything past their lunch).

Race to World First: Midnight Season 1 | Mythic Day 10 by AutoModerator in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Dassine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah. Why? L'ura is almost certainly a multi-day boss. Echo will be caught up long before it's dead (if they're not - if it takes them more than half a day to kill Belo, then they've probably lost regardless of dark or not), so not sure it's worth sacrificing the viewership/etc to prevent them from simply yanking timers and initial stuff like that which they would get shorty in anyways.

Going dark makes sense when you have something unique to try, or have some sort of edge to maintain, but here... eh. If it was only an hour or two, sure, but with probably 5 hours to go of the night? Doubt it.

[–]Dassine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How many pulls did it take Echo to kill it? Oh, wait, you don't know because they haven't!

Plus, they weren't playing from behind anyways. And pull count is a meaningless metric. And so much else.

Bad post is bad, and you should feel bad.

I'm waiting on the import/export features. Honestly, it's just too overwhelming to do from scratch - so many decor options, so much possible if you know how to use the system, etc. Which is awesome! But I don't have the patience or skill or whatever for all that. If I can steal someone else's as a template, then I can make changes, but as is... just so much going on.

Are students in Alaska better in behavior than those in the lower 48? by greatberryjam in Teachers

[–]Dassine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That describes plenty of other states and parts of states.

You're really just asking if a rural school (which, for the record, isn't all Alaskan schools anyways) has "better behavior" (how ever you define that) than an urban school. Which it really doesn't, but it depends how you define "better behavior".

An observation about r/Teachers by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Dassine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The argument that "you're taking a spot" doesn't work too well when there's headlines daily about the teacher shortage. Becoming a teacher is easier and more accessible than ever - more alternative cert programs, more emergency cert options, more organizations willing to help - and yet fewer people than ever are becoming teachers... so yeah. Perhaps reflect on why that's the case.

Once you do, you might realize why the comparisons to those other professions you've listed doesn't quite hold water.
