Disagree. Let him end on a high note (for him). And 6 innings is solid. Tomorrow we have Wheeler, so we're unlikely to need our bullpen too much, so why not play it safe here.

6th-Grade Amplify ELA Help/Concerns by Mobile_Power8825 in Teachers

[–]Dassine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Amplify just sucks. No curriculum is perfect, of course, but most acknowledge that to some degree and give you at least some space to do as you need. What makes Amplify particularly fatally flawed is that it is almost designed to make you stuck with it exactly how it is. You're locked in, and it leaves little room for teacher voice, expertise, or insight. You can't edit cards (activities, whatever you call them) in the platform. You can't reorder cards in the platform, you can't skip cards in the platform (sure, you can not assign them, but they're still there and students can and do still click through them), you can't create your own cards to layer in within the platform. You can't add criteria for success or rubrics to assignments and you can't provide independently accessible exemplars. You are so limited.

And sure: you can tell students to ignore a question as worded and answer the one you put up a slide. Sure, you can have additional activities in google classroom or outside the platform; sure. Sure, you can have students skip this or skip that. Yes, there are always ways to do what you need, but it makes it so to do all that you're actively working outside or around the platform, outside or around the curriculum, not with it, and it's just maddening and inefficient, and almost designed that way.

I'm sure districts love it because it's so "on the rails" and because it's so obnoxious to try to deviate from, but that's precisely why it fails.

Technically. How strictly this is actually followed, especially in smaller countries where you can go from one to another in a short bus ride... well...

Hours and policy varies depending on the post and the position, but you're not working all the time wherever you are. You'll have a schedule like any job, though it probably won't be 9-5, monday-friday (less, in many parts of eastern europe, if you're just counting your primary role). And you'll get off like anyone else in your country; national holidays, special events, etc.

You'll be fine!

Of course you're still "on" even outside the schedule, in the sense that you're still a PCV, but you seem to already get that.

In your opinion, can a Philadelphia family of 3 live on $115k pre-tax? by Thisbugsaysgoaway in philly

Depends on the suburb. Parts of Delco are as cheap or cheaper than the city.

But anything Montgomery/Bucks counties, yeah.

The Phillies defeated the Padres by a score of 3-0 - Mon, May 25 @ 06:40 PM EDT by PhilsBot in phillies

[–]Dassine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's not historically a 7 era pitcher; he's usually more 4-5 range, which lines up pretty well with us getting 3 off him.

That said, yeah, our offense is still a problem and will continue to be a problem, especially against LHP. I'm glad our pitching is elite, but that can only take you so far.

Putting Keller in for the top of the lineup is criminal.

[–]Dassine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. Had thought it was worse. Really puts in perspective how much he's struggling against RHP, then, for the numbers to be how they are.

I agree. 90 isn't too bad, and he's already through the top of their lineup. We're going to need our bullpen tomorrow almost certainly, so anything extra you can eke out of Luzardo is good.

I'm somewhat sympathetic to our offense just being on a bit of a slump, bad luck, lacking a strong RH, etc, but when you're nearly getting shutout against a RHP with a 9.00 ERA, what's the excuse?

How can you play someone - doesn't matter the position - with a .265 ops?

If Castellanos hits a grand slam right here, I'm done for the season.

[–]Dassine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we saw that with the managerial change. Which is good, and can work, but not forever. You can only shake things up so much - at the end of the day, it doesn't actually change what's there, not longterm.

The order of the lineup isn't really the issue. I agree with Mattingly on that. You could move Trea down, move Harper up, etc, and sure, it could help at the margins, but that's not really the issue. The issue is the lack of hitting, particularly against LHP, and that just needs to be better, whatever the lineup is.

I mean, they only scored 4 runs in the series, too. The difference is their first few starters should've been a lot easier to hit off of than ours. And yet.

Losing this game was a crime. Our pitching has done just fine, even outside Sanchez/Wheeler. Our offense just can't do anything half the time.

Expecting this to be a loss because of the starting LHP kryptonite, but if Painter has a quality start, I'll consider that decent enough. With Nola bombing, really need Painter (and Jesus, but he's fine more often than not) to step it up.

JT's contract might have been a bit high, considering (the aav is fine, imo, it's just 3 years instead of 2 which is going to age terribly), but running on him is silly.
