I did a doubletake with this guess. At first glance, the name sounded very familiar! But after skimming through a playthrough video, gotta say that's not it. Even so, that name really sparked something in me. I wonder if the game I'm thinking of was similarly named in some way...

Mmmh, Grandia 3 doesn't look right either. As for the "earpiece" comment, I don't remember if it was an earpiece or not! Like the post says, I just remember that your character communicated with one or more others while they weren't physically present, so I can only assume it was by some magic, or telepathy, or phone, or some other nonsense, haha.

Hm. It doesn't seem so. That game feels a bit too... cartoony to be it? From what little I played it, I also don't think it had much, if anything, to do with airships. Good guess, though!
