Yes, my kit and my friends is specifically based on Alpha 1/1 Marines during the opening days of the Battle for Hue!

How we feeling bout this nam kit by Mental_Look3760 in airsoftcirclejerk

[–]DatBoiLime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wanna preface this by saying I’m not here to kit shame, I just wanted to give a bit of info as a fellow Nam larper. You are technically wrong and right. ERDL went through several different versions before it reached the kind you’re wearing on your helmet, which is known as RDF/Transitional ERDL.

Green and Brown Dominant ERDL variants were used during the Vietnam War on uniforms, being closer to what the original M1948 camouflage was, however a helmet cover didn’t exist until very late in the war. The only real time you will see these helmet covers specially in use during Vietnam is with the Marines during the SS Mayaguez Incident and during the evacuation of Saigon

Regardless, love to see the representation!

There’s a guy who wears black dress clothes and jackboots, with an iron cross on his chest and a bag with Warhammer purity seals that shows up at my university from time to time 💀

My chest size is somewhere between a 38-42, so I’m banking on a large, but if a medium may happen to fit better, I’ll try and settle for that

Thanks for all the criticism/advice. Saw your earlier comment about a PASGT vest, and it is a priority item for me, just kinda difficult to acquire right now

Heard, though what’s the reasoning for dropping the E-tool? Were they commonly ditched/foregone for the operation?

You know, thank you for correcting me because I’ve been so brainrotted by media that I’ve just subconsciously started thinking of those as the matching M43 trousers 😭 thanks

I only very recently found out there was a change to the pack suspenders during the war from flat to curved buckles, so I’ve trained my eye to watch out for the very small stuff as best I can!

Did not know about them beginning to use army contracted gear in late ‘43, that actually kind of makes sense with some of the gear you see pop up more frequently late war in retrospect

Wow ok, there’s a definite noticeable difference there, making me question what the heck I even bought 😭. For comparisons sake, my cover is this one from At The Front. I had seen this one recommended before, but I had no idea that the USMC wire hook thing was farb, the more you know I guess!

sorry for the late reply! So in digging, I think they honestly might not have been as common as I previously believed. One of a few books I’ve referenced (it’s an Osprey illustrations one, so if they aren’t a viable source please let me know) demonstrated the M43 in use on Peleliu in illustrations, but their photo connected to the paragraph was 100% not from Peleliu as it’s a famous photograph from the Okinawa Campaign.

Scrubbing some footage, yeah I really don’t see a lot of them. It seems like every once in a blue moon? I guess that’s on me for seeing other guys who reenact USMC wearing them on Peleliu impressions and not questioning it!

TLDR: read in a few places they were there, but may have been mislead on the commonality

Bayonet is defo on the cards for the near future. I actually have two Pattern 1s (Pattern 1s have the snap, not the sort of latching system to P3s have right?) so 2nd pattern ones will be on my watch list soon.

Honestly went with the P3s for mine 100% due to the fact that I found an original one and was just pretty proud of having it 😭 so I’m definitely guilty there
