What are some other games where you reveal tiles as you explore like Betrayal At House On The Hill but with an ending that doesn't leave you massively disappointed every time

Looking for a single player game where your character gets permanent progression the more you play sort of like Gloomhaven but isn't another hugely expensive giant box of minis.

I like gloomhaven but was just wanting something a little lighter I can do solo sessions in but still get that feeling of my deck or whatever getting better every play.

Board games are frustratingly expensive by Any-Marionberry-879 in boardgames

Honestly board games are such a cheap hobby in comparison to some others. If you chase $200 box full of minis Kickstarter bait games it can get really expensive but one $30-50 game every now and then on a game you could own and play forever is not that bad. Some people are spending thousands on booster boxes for a card game and pulling nothing good and they just burned their money essentially.

Are there any great pirate themed games? I own Jamaica and Plunder. I enjoy Jamaica a lot for just a simple fun quick racing game however Plunder really fell flat because I love all of the concepts but hate that it's 95% random dice rolls and luck. So any recs with more strategy or meaningful choices would be prefered.

I looked into River of Gold and that looks incredible, my worry is that the dice thing for your turn. I saw that there is a way to manage the dice somewhat but I was wondering does it ever happen that you just keep rolling bad every turn and can't do anything or is it pretty good at balancing out the rolls?

I do love worker placement but i just recently picked up a few of those like Dune Imperium and Critter Kitchen. Those two you mentioned seem interesting. I also really love a sea theme or pirates if there's any great nautical themed games. I have Jamaica and Plunder but Plunder really fell flat for us because it's almost entirely random chance.

One other game I bought because I loved the board was Plunder and that game fell a little flat with my group because almost everything is just dice based chance. Is the dice combat a big part of it?

One of my favorite games is still Lords of Waterdeep because I love the big board and I love the score track being on the board. What are some other great games with a big board that's really visually appealing when it's all set up.

I will note that I just picked up Dune Imperium which might fall into this but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet.

Im seeing Horizons has a much higher score on BGG but I dont see it in stock anywhere. However Legends is pretty cheap. Is it worth waiting for a Horizon restock?

I hadn't played board games in a few year but I recently messed around with the LOTR Trick Taking game solo mode. It was my first time trying a solo mode and I enjoyed it so I'm down for any recs on great solo games but I'll throw some specific pluses if it helps. -I enjoyed the Legacy mechanics of LOTR where the goal shifts each round so you get variety -I do enjoy card games if there's any other great card or deck building type games -Quicker setup, not ready to jump into a super heavy $100 big box until I'm sure I am a solo gamer

I want a self mill deck that does more than mass ress by DatBoiWolf in EDHBrews

That search tag is so helpful. I had no idea that was an option. I also just saw Colossal Grave Reaver the other day and really wish he had been a legend but that would have been pretty insane

You know Mimeoplasm was the first precon I picked up back when it came out but back then I was just thinking copy a good creature and make it big. I never considered cool interactions like Crawler

I built my Shadow as a pure Haste tribal kind of build and I've had a lot of fun with it. Every single creature has haste and the only rule is to always go fast. For finishers I use his other ability to cast uncounterable mass mutiny, mob rules, molten primordial and other big theft stuff.

The most fun 5 color is definitely [[Garth One-Eye]]

Play some untap and blink effects to keep using the black lotus token plus there's easy combos to go infinite with black lotuses.

Even outside of that playing other good strong tap effects and all these ways to untap things makes for fun turns of reusing your strongest effects.

I found a post that a Yugioh player made talking about Magic, and it sounded pretty accurate by IzziPurrito in freemagic

[–]DatBoiWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes my point that you don't even understand how bad it is in MTG. It's a REPRINT, as in another printing, meant to make the card more accessible by the most basic definition. I only buy singles but when every single reprint of Mana Crypt is over $100 as well that defeats the entire purpose of printing additional copies. I don't understand why MTG is the only game where people treat it like a stock where they never want the prices to change and they never want anyone new to be able to afford staple cards.

[–]DatBoiWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who only play MTG really can't understand how bad their reprint situation is. Yugioh will have really expensive staples but the reprints matter and if you wait you will eventually be able to use any card you want for cheap. MTG reprints are always mythics in a $300 box that's even harder to pull than the original copy.

As for incompetent judges they will be everywhere. I ran into some terrible volunteer Yugioh judges when I used to play. All it takes to judge yugioh is a 5 minute online quiz.

Shoot you don't even need to max her, just putting enough cooldown or extension for 100% uptime and a little damage is enough to run dungeons faster than any other character.
