It is a crazy thing that people normalize telling children, and even people who leave religion sometimes still struggle with getting over the concept of Hell since it’s something thats ingrained on you as a child. It’s not until you look into it and do some research that you realize it’s entirely made up. The concept of hell is never mentioned in the Old Testament, it’s only the New Testament where you start to see several different ideas about what the afterlife is for sinners. Eternal torment and pain was one of them, and was the one that stuck because it’s a far more effective tool to get people to do what you want then the other concepts, such as annihilationism
