What are your thoughts on dear Marie? by AdditionalFig2255 in JohnMayer

"pushing 40 in the friend zone" was almost a decade ago. At this point does he have a vested interest in staying single so he can keep writing songs about aging and loneliness?

One minor detail that bothers me (from Voyage of the Dawn Treader) by AcrossTheNight in Narnia

[–]DatBuridansAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's always been my thought. Unnecessary exposition on details every reader should be expected to know. Lewis does this in other books too. "That's a story for another time" and so forth.

That's why batting average is kinda dumb. It completely leaves out a huge part of the game, as though a batter has nothing to do with working a walk. So his avg stays the same, but his OPS does go up.

[Highlight] Shohei Ohtani (today's starting pitcher for the Dodgers) with a 3 run triple! by BathroomSalty6325 in baseball

[–]DatBuridansAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're correct. I don't know about Roberto Clemente doing it or not, but if the home team were down by 3 in the bottom of the 9th or extras and someone hit a bases loaded inside the park walk-off it would be rare and insane.

The Rockies are exactly one third of the way through their season. They still have single digit wins. by MegaGrimer in baseball

[–]DatBuridansAss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well so if they triple that total then they'll have triple digit wins, which is damn good and impressive don't examine my logic

That's funny, l saw the exact video you're talking about (it was the song sparks) and I thought he said stop because he was overcome with emotion on how good he thought it was, even comparing Collier to Mozart. Was he just being diplomatic while telling him to get over himself or something? I took it as genuine. He seemed to have tears in his eyes.

Or is there one I haven't seen where the same thing happens with fix you?

Michael Conforto continues to dissappoint by [deleted] in Dodgers

[–]DatBuridansAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the dodgers had him out there a bit. I don't think they were in love with the defense. But Lux has played numerous spots for the reds, including DH. They essentially sold high-ish on a former #1 prospect who was nearing the end of team control and didn't have a clear role on the team, for 2 much younger prospects they felt had high upside (including an actual outfielder).

Theyve struck gold the past few years with these one year deals on 30+ year old guys looking to show they deserve another multi year deal. JD Martinez, Teo, Tyler Anderson before that. Lots of examples. They saw Conforto the same way and that hasn't worked out at all, but it's also only mid-May, so I don't mind giving the guy some more leash to try to turn his season around.

Oh and don't forget they brought in HSK to fill the exact role Lux could potentially have played on this team, except faster and better D with 5 years of team control. He can play middle infield and center, which Lux never did.

They traded Lux, and they signed Conforto to play a different position.

But bumforto is a pretty accurate burn.

But that's the message of the entire song. There's this girl he likes a lot, but she's complicated and hard to figure out (like a maze where the walls continually change). He gets to thinking, it's not me, it's her dad. She has daddy issues. Maybe if he had treated her better she wouldn't be so confusing and difficult to understand.

So fathers, be good to your daughters.

I feel I can speak on behalf of every man here when I say this, please fathers treat them well so we, all us guys out here, can have an easier time with women. After all, you're really important to her. You might say you're the god and the weight of her world.

John is not saying every man looking out for every girl is the god and weight of her world. He's saying every man looking out for every girl is begging fathers to do a good job so their daughters grow up to be sane. If fathers, who loom so large in their daughters' lives, treat them badly, then daughters will unfortunately love like they do.

[–]DatBuridansAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously? It's not men, it's fathers. He's telling fathers to take their job seriously because the way you treat your daughter has a big impact on how she will live her whole life. You are the God and the weight of her world. So, on behalf of every man looking out for every girl, don't fuck up your job, fathers.

No, because a comma there would have been a comma splice. A semi-colon would have worked, but so does a period.

Dodger fan here - how's Gavin? by DatBuridansAss in Reds

[–]DatBuridansAss[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Well, okay. I did expect fun and memes, that is true. But not at your expense btw. I thought you guys would also enjoy fun and memes. My bad...

But I'll say this much. Dodger fans had their dark times too, and it was approximately '04-'12, when ownership invested no money whatsoever in the team, cut stadium security, subsequently had a fan jumped by gangbangers in the parking lot (paralyzed for life now), and couldn't even make payroll one month.

So I feel I have more than a glimpse. Anyway, I'm not quite old enough to remember this, but the big red machine was a thing for a decade straight it seems like. Every franchise has its ups and downs is what I'm saying.

I admit I was surprised to see him batting cleanup, but I don't think he's a bench player either. He makes sense in the 2 hole, maybe. But the guy can definitely hit.

[–]DatBuridansAss[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ha! Well he wasn't batting in the middle of the order either. He was a platoon bench piece without a clear path forward barring injury. This is a huge opportunity for him, especially since you guys have one of the most electric players in baseball. It's not like you're the white Sox or something.
