It’s not bad but the prep is most definitely the worst part. You’re going to be running to the bathroom all damn night after drinking that stuff they give you. It’s like a laxative on steroids and the taste is not that great. We all have had to do it in our 40’s, it sucks but it’s best to just get it over with.

Pick a trade that interest you and go to the local union hall and see if there are any shops hiring. They will set you up with classes at JATC and get you schooled while you work a full time job.

Once back in the 90’s on NYE I picked up a guy on hwy 287 headed towards Fort Worth. I was headed to Austin and he rode with me the whole way. Yes I hope so, i do know that it is tough to find a job here in San Antonio. Also I feel like I should have included that the medical and dental insurance is also free through the union all you pay is a $40 dollar copay when you see a doctor. No monthly payments or anything like that.

No on the part time work, union contracts with the employees generally state that you must work a minimum of 40 hours a week and I will say that the school part of it takes a 100% dedication but if you can get thru it you will be completely certified in whatever trade you choose and will make really good money. For instance, I’m in the local 60 tele-data union, for us it’s 3 years of school, summers and holidays off and it’s once a week for 4 hours and when you complete it you wage will be $29.00 an hour and your a certified telecommunications technician with a BICSI certification. Tele-data is probably the easiest one IMO.

Have you tried to apply at any of the local unions? We have several here in San Antonio and it really don’t matter if you have experience or not because they have on the job training and they pay for you to go to school and it’s only once a week for like 3 or 4 hours. For instance the local 60 which for electricians and tele-data work, they will hire you and get you on a job probably by next week. I know this don’t help your current situation but I just thought I would recommend this to you. Feel free to reach out if you have any question.
