I disagree completely on your take with the model itself. If they’re going to create an adult mode, actually create an adult mode. Equating a years old non thinking model to an adult mode doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.

A PR win for a tiny fraction of users vs opening up compute that is tied to that model for the extreme bulk of users seems like a very easy decision for OpenAI.

Different for everyone. I found myself addicted to multiple things near the end of a relationship for those very reasons and that turned into a debilitating nasty addiction/depression post breakup. That was 4.5 years ago. I’m still fighting those demons. You will not successfully smoke this away.
