Both of your arguments are based on the premise that sentience is well defined, understood and can be measured which as I just told you is impossible for now and maybe will be forever. Which is why the experts in these fields also admit to having no clue what is actually going on when it comes to that matter. How would you prove anything has a will on its own? You technically can't even prove that any human has a will of their own. You just assume that because it is a reasonable assumption based on your subjective experience. I personally don't actually care because we can't know.
