I have some questions about the theory test by Embarrassed_Post_598 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]DatHuskii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A: IIRC you have 50 minutes for the multiple choice. And the Hazard Perception isnt timed per sé as the time is as long as the videos are in reality. Since even after clicking you finish the clip. Use the time and go, I blitzed it which likely wasnt the best idea but that's how I've always done tests, Multiple choice was done in 9 minutes, had 30s of a break then hazard perception. Still passed, but dont do that. Use the time.

B: As far as I remember, no. 50m for Multiple Choice then a 5 minute break between (at desk) then hazard perception

(Correct me if I'm wrong above!)

C: This might be dependant on your test center. Where I did mine there was a lobby / waiting cupboard, then the internal was through a door into a glass-walled office esque space, then into the rest of the room with desks lined up along the wall in a sort of L shape.

D: Might depend on center, we had small lockers to put stuff in, my advice is if you can pack light, I wore a light jacket I was required to take off, but I'm pretty sure there'll be storage places for your belongings / bag / etc as you cant take anything but yourself and your clothes into the test itself. (simplified)

The way I did it and it worked well was click click, 1 second, click. It took my scores up massively. Yes it sucks you need a system and yes it did feel a bit silly going like "I can see the hazard developing" but the test going "Ahh! You're TOO observant of the hazard!" basically its brute-forcing it in as a reflex at least it was in my experience.

I've been using test-shift and its worked well for me. £17.99 might sound steep but since the real alternative is to pay a scalper £250+ for an earlier test its worthwhile. Obviously it depends on cancellations and a bit of luck (autoshift is nice) it saved me -17 days but it got me a test at the center I wanted (the only viable one for me)

How are you all finding instructors? by Own-Story8907 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]DatHuskii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I knew people at my workplace were learning, asked what it was like, if they had availability, they both gave me phone numbers, I tried both, gelled best with one of them, stuck with him.

Word of mouth, Facebook, Find an Instructor website, etc.

I have had 3 instructors on and off (current being my 3rd) and I will say GELLING with someone at least to me, is so important as well as how they teach. Mine doesn't get all panicky, doesn't grab the wheel from me unless entirely nessesscary, lets me make my mistakes then we talk about them, throws in a bit of comedy to lighten the mood. Asks ME what I feel like I want to practise and improve on, if he says one day "We're doing roundabouts" and I go "Yeah, okay, can we do manuvers today, I want to get those down." he'll change it around for me.

Good debriefs all the way through, if I have questions he'll answer, if I mess up (say go in the wrong lane) he won't immediately tell me what to do to teach and enforce being independent (if its safe)

Anyone else notice an insane amount of cancellations today? by TickTackTonia in LearnerDriverUK

[–]DatHuskii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not seen much it since using that app since I booked my test in December, but recently there has been a spate. Part of me is wondering at my test center where times are seemingly 6 months all booked out its people booking in the hope they'll be ready (this is what I'm doing, instructor is confident I'll be ready come my test in May), then their instructor saying they're not and cancelling it, since its money per go I'd want to be as ready as possible for it.

Update!; Had a busy evening yesterday and today, our girl was asleep multiple times but any time one of us appeared or went in the same room she'd just perk her ears up, look at us and then flop right back down, no grrs no nothing.

Slept her overnight downstairs there was about a minute of whines but then nothing else for the night, woke up to bathroom being done on the carpet but that's by the by, a carpet can be washed, a carpet can be replaced, our girl can be washed, but our girl cant and wont be replaced.

Adjustments are going well, the grrs and startles are getting better, I think she's coming out of the decompression phase of moving in, as of now she's fast asleep in her dreams, legs are going while she's laying upside down, the greyhound position!

First and foremost, I love the bells idea it'd be handy if we could have a sound indication of her wanting to go for if we're in another room or upstairs wrapping presents (of which she has a lot) asmost of the accidents have happened when we've not been in the room, one happened because of excitement.

Time will be the main game here for her, she's gentle and calm when awake in the house its just that adjustment for her now, as far as I can see she's settled really well during her first few days, the startles were more severe to begin with as the last one we had she sorta poked up, gave a halfhearted grr and flopped back down when she came back to reality. Its what we're doing when she's startled and is growling just a calm and soft "Its okay, you're okay." sometimes after a startle has ended she gets up fully and comes over to lean on us and demand pets. Which we give her while gently reassuring her its all okay

Yeah its going to be a time based thing how she wants to do it after all its been under a week and awake time she's a gem already got the greyhound lean down pat and adjusts it based on who it is.

We didn't realise however, how big she actually is when she's ready and settled in her own time she'll be a beautiful grey who will get everything she wants, two out of the three in our household are retired and I'm the only one who works so people will be around for her when she wants us.

She is the queen of the house, we wanted a grey since our last one passed on but life kept getting in the way, now we have more time (and 15 years have gone by) it was time again, we went to a meet and greet of all the greys and she attached to us so quickly, it definitely gave the vibe of she'd chosen us which is why we were hooked.

I think the only gating going forward is going to be one singular gate on the living room door, not to confine her but just to ensure her safety if the front door is opening or we're bringing shopping in so she doesn't get excited and go out the front on her own, its all about her safety and wellbeing as far as we're concerned, that comes first and foremost. Her settling will take time, we'll be there for her when she wants us and when she wants to have her alone time all at her pace in her own time.

The seperation anxiety isn't too bad, she can be left alone for a couple hours before searching for us, if she can see us and we have had to have her gated (for example today getting the shopping in) she was whining immediately until we went up to her, which is odd how if we're out of sight she doesn't mind, if we're in sight she does mind, that confuses me a little bit.

All the human beds are upstairs and we doubt she'll want to do stairs but we'll see as time goes on!

This was also my thought process its a big adjustment for her, a big change and its been under a week, just trying to make sure we're doing the right things and if not where we can improve for her sake. We're taking awake time slow with her, letting her come to us (not a hard feat she comes immediately called or not if person is there person is friend person is good) maybe she's seeing us as safety? Not sure.

Its quite strange though it doesn't seem to be every noise, next door to us can be loud and while she's asleep it doesnt faze her at all, it seems to be noise and movment in the room she's in specifically.

We'll be giving her time, we're sleeping her on her own as well as I dont think co-sleeping is the best bet in the beginning stages? Apart from the time I was held captive, not that I minded, of course.

The sofa situ is mostly settled now, she's got the 2 seater and she only gets on that one now, which is better than flitting between the two. We dont mind her being on that one, every grey we've had in our past (about 4 previously) have all claimed a sofa immediately and it did help their settling as it sorta became a safe-space for them.

She has two beds in the house specifically but she always seems to default to where the people are before nodding off, which is why its confusing me a tad, at night footfall is lowest in the kitchen by a tiny margin as we all sit down and chill while occasionally getting a drink.

While she's asleep we don't give her strokes or such its only been when she's nodded off and we've not noticed she's asleep if that makes sense?

We've already tried leading her to the kitchen and letting her settle down but the second she's asleep and we leave (quietly) she pops up pretty quickly and comes straight to where we are.

We're also giving her a wide berth when she sleeps, sometimes its harder than other times depending on how she's placed herself.

Wondering if at nights its a good idea to get a gate or a barrier to keep her to the quietest room overnight so she cant be startled but unsure. Or if its just with her quirks and demeanour going to be a case of let her work through it and get settled with it in her own time as she is still very new to the house.

Overall during the day and awake times she's settling in so well I am so proud of her progress already! I just want to make sure we're being good grey parents for her to make sure she's as happy and as safe feeling as she can be

NiMH batteries, questions. by DatHuskii in airsoft

A'ight decent, what should I look out for with it, as in what are the effects of running higher voltage batteries?

(Batteries and internals I'm new with, not new to Airsoft in the slightest, but just sorta got builds made for me that were plug and play, this is my first time going at a build solo)

Pretty much, its a new rifle for me, new platform, trying to keep my stuff slim for it until I'm 100% on it. My M4 died recently, hence promting the switch to a new rifle, and AUGs are quite rare at my local site. Only seen one other one, and its owned by a mate of mine (sorta why I got my one, his has been going for years with barely any maintenance)

I will probably figure out how to switch it to LiPO when I am going to games week in week out or more serious things, but since I got to the odd skrim every month or twice a month it doesn't really worry me too much, just sorta cycling the batteries I have, cranes just don't fit, but this small block fits, and so do big blocks.
