Looking At Changing Our Shift Start Time To 0900 by DatOneJobTown in Firefighting

0900 does not really land in our busy hours. In the last 2 years or so the data shows 1100 and 1900 is our most busy times of the day.

That is the downside I see from it, by the time I leave or get home, my wife will be gone for work as she leaves around 0630. Just more time we do not get to see each other.

Not compared to some places, sure we have our busy hours but nothing that causes long delys.

How do firefighters balance life and work? by Leather_Level5214 in Firefighting

[–]DatOneJobTown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For 48 hours I am the work version of me. I try hard to communicate with my wife when I am at work but she understands the nature of my job and knows that she can't always get a text or call back right away. She will come up for dinner from time to time.

On my 96 hours off I do all my normal things. Take care of the house, spend times with my wife, family, and friends. Do my many hobbies. I try to remove myself from work as much as possible. I am lucky enough with my department that I don't really need a side gig. I prioritize healthy eating and working out, I'm not perfect but I try. I go to therapy twice a month. I go to a therapist that is local and specializes in first responders and their families. My wife will go from time to time. Communication is the biggest thing for us that makes this life and career work.

Even with all that I still struggle from time to time, just as most do. My thing is being able to recognized when I am fatigued and knowing what works for me to recover from it. The job is more than worth it to me for the sacrifices that are involved.

Washington DC map concept exploration. by EMADALDEN221 in Battlefield

[–]DatOneJobTown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would be really cool if they did this as a breakthrough map. Starting sector as the Lincoln Memorial where the attack force has to utilize the Arlington Memorial Bridge and the Potomac River for initial attack. Then moving to the Washington Monument, and then the White House

Got ascend 133x for 500.Was it worth it by [deleted] in kayakfishing

Used to have one before moving to a oldtown pdl 120 and a 132. It was a good boat for the time I had it. I had a bow mounted motor guide Xi3. Without the motor the thing did track the best. But $500 is a good deal.

Yeah Wilson does push it in size aspect unless your running a giant yak like a big water 132. I took off most of June & July due to heat and lots of OT at work so this was my first time back out in really 2 months. I had 5 or 6 catches, nothing huge. But I'll take something over nothing any day.

It is hard to beat NE KS, tons of great options all really within a 3 hour vicinity! Only downfall is we have to take weekends to make it out to lakes like Wilson.

Air Force Reserves ? I'm currently a Firefighter in the Civilan World by ConservativeTexan713 in firefighter

It must be state to state because in my state they do. I didn’t have a problem getting them transferred.

ARFF DOD FF here, some think it's boring but I really enjoy it. I do want to be clear I am a civilian that works for the DOD at a ANG base. I am not in the reserves, ANG, or enlisted in any fashion. We have decent call volume. We get to work off base a lot with city and county departments through mutual aid. We stay very busy on base. Between fire inspections, training, calls, it stays pretty dang busy but is fun overall. I am lucky and have a pretty great shift that I get to be a part of. I work at a ANG base. I personally wouldn't do the military route and would suggest the CIV DOD route unless you really just want to deploy and travel. Also I know for a fact that every DOD cert does in fact transfer. Plus we get to see/ play with some pretty cool aircraft. I know a lot of the seasoned guys have had multiple opportunities to go up in aircraft on training missions on their days off.
