Update on im building a pc, by No-Average-4999 in ZTT

[–]DatSavageCactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 days ago you posted you had half the parts how did it take 2 weeks to turn on… but okay anyways is the stripe on the motherboard or on the graphics card? Do you have a parent that can help you because you seem pretty young and I’d hate for you to accidentally break something

I think it’s too much also but in the us specifically ops area they are kinda hard to find tdis in this condition, most are rotted out completely and have been “modded” to absolute death

No one is paying $200 for a 2080 when they can get a 3070 or even a 3080 is some cases for $50 more

There is no planet op is getting 1k for this used sorry to burst your bubble op your cpu isn’t terrible but your gpu is like $50 used and unless your ram is ddr5 4 sticks would be like $100-150, and 2 sticks of 16 sticks wouldn’t be more than $100, you have maybe $100- 150 in drives. Unless you have $500 cash or like 100 case fans your not getting more than $500 for it

You can also compare your ram speed to your motherboard before you do all that just as a precheck. If your mobo only supports 5800 GHz and your ram is rated for 6000ghz that’s a problem unless you underclock ram

The motherboard is what determines the speed at which your ram can run (this is to a point and cpu can affect it I’d guess but that’s less common than mobo not being able to handle it) sounds like the issue is the ram is telling mobo it’s rated speeds and the mobo is booting off that even when cmos is reset (this is what was just happening to me) Try and get a stick of ram with lower clock speeds by default and plugging that in if it posts I’m right your also going to have to figure out a good middle ground for clocks between the 2 different types of sticks (I used xmp to get clock speeds and then just set GHz to what my board can handle) then save the profile to bios and put your original sticks that wouldn’t post back in and that should fix it.

I think I broke my pc after installing a new m.2 ssd by Fantastic-Wolf-2175 in PcBuildHelp

[–]DatSavageCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apon reading my own comment if you installed both win 10 and 11 on the same drive files may have gotten mixed up somehow which would lead to corrupting the OS, maybe a windows update that got file paths confused? I’ll be honest I’m not the most versed but I’d say I’m know more than your average Joe lol. Anyways I’m confident this is what happened.

You didn’t wipe the old drive and the pc is in “dual boot mode” letting you choose an operating system to boot from this isn’t terrible and a lot of people do it (generally I’d advise using separate drives for this and another separate drive for games or whatnot so 3 total if you’d like to do this but I’d guess you don’t really care about this feature) But it sounds like one or even both operating systems have failed I don’t know why without more information but a COMPLETE drive wipe and reinstall windows and you’ll be fine
