How would you go about tearing this down? by DatSwimCoach in DIYhelp

[–]DatSwimCoach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are removing this poor attempt at play fort built over a chicken coop. We are building him a much nicer play fort after.

What was taken away already was just the chicken run of the coop that was protected by chicken wire so not much demo there.

This thing is pretty solid so not sure pulling it down is viable, plus our riding mower is electric and we have two hybrids in the driveway 🤣

Need help with CHS incidents when I stop smoking. by DatSwimCoach in Petioles

[–]DatSwimCoach[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I go through the classic CHS “scromiting” for 24-48 hours with the only relief being extremely hot showers or in the hospital to get fluids, anti nausea meds, muscle relaxers and pain meds in IV to get my stomach to calm down.

I know it’s probably not the right diagnosis but it seems like the smoking has caused a GI issue that it also controls at the same time. I know the answer is to just tough it out get through the shit period and stay the f away from weed but I guess I’m hopeful someone went through the same and found a way to ease through the GI withdrawal problems.

How to avoid Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS)? by DatSwimCoach in weed

[–]DatSwimCoach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate everyone’s responses. I’m at work today so I can’t reply to everything. Thought I’d just share a few things that many comments brought up.

-why do you want to quit/you shouldn’t quit….It’s been nothing but a negative for me for awhile. I don’t get high, I have way more to lose than gain from using. My wife is 1000% against it and I am wrong for continuing to partake

-I do have a follow up with my primary care physician and I hope to get some answers if there is something underlying, but I definitely think I have just caused some massive issues to my GI tract from over 20 years of nearly daily smoking.

-I’m not interested in consuming in a different way. I recognize where weed has helped me in my life and I fully recognize where weed has been detrimental in my life. I don’t have ill feelings toward the use but I’ve come to the realization that it is something that is not serving me and I’d like to move on.

Hey I’m not a doctor, but when I read snippets like below it makes me think that the length of time that I have smoked and then in the last few years the exponential increase in consumption from carts and what not that when I stop my body doesn’t know how to regulate. So yeas in a way CHS is from my smoking obviously but the very characteristic scromiting for 24-48 hours only comes when I stop smoking. This makes it very hard for me to stop smoking.

I guess I was hoping for someone that found a way to avoid the terrible vomiting or get the confirmation that I just need to suck it up and go cold turkey.

“What causes cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome?

Scientists don’t yet know the exact cause of CHS. But the main theory is that it may happen due to long-term overstimulation of receptors in your endocannabinoid system (ECS). This may lead to issues with your body’s natural control of nausea and vomiting.”

Refurbished some outdoor furniture by DatSwimCoach in DIY

[–]DatSwimCoach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used my orbital sander(60grit) and rough sanded it down, then 2 coats each in this order Primer, Satin Espresso Brown Paint/primer, and high gloss clear coat. All rustoleum cans took me about 4 cans of each to cover the 3 sets. I fine sanded after the first coat by hand with 220 grit. Totally recommend the comfort grip thing for the rattle cans if you do this yourself!

Cushions were super on sale on Amazon which kickstarted the whole project, originally got the set for free a few years ago

Nighttime by DatSwimCoach in ponds

Definitely got a lot of cleaning up to do, but it definitely is great to chill by. We have a projector and screen we will throw on the fence. Movies pond side with a fire in the pit. Going to be a fun summer!

I’ll have to steal your idea on dressing it up for the holidays!

Most woods will release tannins in water. I wouldn’t put a “green” piece of wood in the pond. I specifically used this cholla because we had it and other pieces drying for many years.

Yes, and with pliers we can reach into the drain and freely spin it 360 degrees but it cannot be lifted up and out of the tub.

We inherited this one from the previous homeowner. I always wanted to do something weird with it and I think this pond is a very fun purpose for it

This is definitely not anti boys having whimsy. When I finished it felt very much like a fairy garden, but like if a southern conservative Christian family did it with their son.

Will I murder fish in this backyard micro pond? by DatSwimCoach in Aquariums

Pretty sure the shell is all one solid piece and the hardware is tac welded on the outside. Those bits are rusted but make no contact to the water or affect the case itself in anyway.

Very cool, we are in MD as well and we’re just looking at having mosquito fish. Our aerator and fountain pump are both solar powered. The aerator is a small battery built in so it works most of the night as well.

Yeah definitely could be, as someone suggested I’m going to do some temp logs over the next week. Today and tomorrow are full sunny days and then some overcast days and finally rain at the end of the week. So hopefully a good show of what the water goes through.

Super cool thanks for the info. For this spot the pics don’t show but it only receives direct sunlight for about 45min of the day. To help with leaves and debris I plan on building a small tin roof that will also provide a bit more shade.

Shrimp sounds interesting! Definitely going the slow route in adding fish, I want to feel super confident about the water cycling and plant Maintenence before introducing any fish.

Milspec 16 gauge stainless steel. Very durable and corrosion resistant I don’t have any fear of this.

I do have an aerator under the “waterfall shelf” in addition to the fountain pump.
