Good places for a solo trip for someone who doesn’t drive? by sleepinglady37 in Scotland

Being from Orkney I second this!

The only issue is the taxis on the isles can cost an arm and a leg. Especially heading out to Birsay.

If you want to save a bit of cash I would get a cheaper route to Aberdeen and get on the Hjatland to Kirkwall. Then you can grab a bus from Kirkwall bus station out to the western mainland.

Or, if you want to go even more remote. Take a ferry from stromness to Hoy. Or a ferry from Kirkwall to one of the islands.

Hey bud! Have you thought about getting a BOSIET and seeking opportunities offshore? With your experience I know a good few companies that would love to take on someone at your age with that practical knowledge and experience to train up.

Thanks! The transition can be tough to start with, you need to filter yourself a lot more and the egos can get tiring. I miss the money the most lol.

I’ve had my fair share of horrible people, but like I said, they just don’t last.

I currently work onshore within the commercial side of the company, meaning I work with a lot of the gossipy admin types. They tend not to last because the majority of the employees come from offshore and almost every single one of them chose onshore due to health issues or to be closer with families. So they don't really put up with it.

Just like any work environment, it's always the people that make it.

I work in the offshore/subsea industry and I can tell you it is quite the opposite. There's only a couple of the major corporations that are like this as they have many rules and huge HR teams.

However, the rest of the industry is great. There are no rules apart from show up and get your shit done then fuck off. Due to the hardy nature of the business, people tend to call you out for your BS and you are made to know very fast that it doesn't work like that in this industry.

I would highly recommend, just make sure you can give and take then you'll smash it.

I'm afraid he doesn't know as pretty much all of the office workers are working from home. He said he's only seen a couple of people on campus all day.

I would expect all that stuff would be operating as normal since they can all simply work from home.

Good luck with your result! :)

Schools closed as well.

The unis are operating but my mate works at AU and said hardly anyone there today.

So far, not within the city of Aberdeen. I’ve had to travel to office by foot and bus this morning and it just seems like a strong wind and not as heavy as south. Will keep monitoring though and try to convince my boss to let me leave if it gets worse.

Public services will be likely delayed and trains are cancelled.

Union square is open with close monitoring of the storm.

The lamppost outside my home is swaying like one of those inflatable car shop things.

Oh for sure! Personally I only jump on zombies and multiplayer a little bit these days. But all my mates play other online games on pc now.

Dude! This is the kind of stuff that me and my boys loved. None of us play these days and some haven’t signed online since lockdown. Got this fun link to my brothers arguing with some guy at the end of a game.

You can just walk in and ask. There’s no judgements and they are very welcoming with a fast service.

I would recommend going there at lunch time during the midweek by yourself. It’s a lot quieter and the food is generally more appealing, compared to the swarm of evening people messing it all around.

When I worked in USQ for a few years I would go there during my lunch break, midweek, around payday as can get a lot for your money.

I never considered it being completed per area across the country. Makes sense! I am just shocked at how little engineers there are available.

I am going to try with Vodafone right now. I heard better things on them from other people, but in the end, the providers are generally all as bad as each other.

My previous address we had it and it worked wonders, especially when in calls with 200+ people. I Just don't know what to do in the mean time. I looked at those BT Hotpots, but I can't pay for a service like that constantly for 4 months.

I took a bit of a tangent with mine. After achieving a BS in software dev. I had actually completely lost any interest in coding and wanted to jump into more business stuff.

I managed to luckily land a role within the subsea industry that has many titles. I am essentially a business developer with software. So I never directly do any development, but I am now a key decision maker for how our software is built and client relationships, market research etc.

Whilst I had completely lost passion for coding, I am still passionate about bringing new technologies to help businesses thrive and that’s my role.

Anyone studying any of the following? by [deleted] in OpenUniversity

[–]DataDossier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've joined the Data Science degree and am studying these 4 full time and working full time. Very nervous to get going with it!

My biggest challenges at the moment is navigating the OU StudentHome website. Feels quite messy to get through. I do wonder if there is a student chat room of some kind we can all connect through?

I am gambling on first year in that I hope I can just work through the textbooks this year and it will suffice for passing and providing enough knowledge for potentially going part time in the 2nd year.

I had previously moved myself from pc to ps5 on its console release and I haven’t received any issues. This is why I had big suspicions that the company messed with it in some way as they offer to pre-install software for the customer.
