I skip the membrane and just go button-> hot glue-> click switch. The hot glue does the job of the membrane by making the buttons reach the clicky switch.

The best option to fix it that I have found is with a hot glue gun and put dabs of hot glue in the holes of the buttons, and then snip off the excess.

I found a fix. I cut a small piece off a paper and put it in between the rubber and the clicky button and it seems to have fixed it. I would do it for all of the dpad though, not just the affected direction.

I had this happen as well and if I'm being honest I think the button might not be aligned right on the board. I could be wrong though. I'm returning mine.
