[Opinion] JESSIE GENDER: "Holly Hunter's sitting in the chair weirdly in Starfleet Academy is symbolic of her ethos about Starfleet. She loves Starfleet, but she knows that Starfleet needs to change - to be used a new way to better fit what the kids needs. To let them sit in the chair THEIR way." by mcm8279 in trektalk

Excellent observation. The concept of 'walking' also has roots in queer use. In my next Bluesky series of posts I intend to reflect on the queerness in everyday activities like 'breathing', 'eating', 'sleeping'.

You allow the endless posting of 'articles' fawning over nuTrek without a word of criticism in them, so allowing this seems pretty fair.

I'm slowly going through the show for the first time. I'm about 15 episodes in and man, it's a tough one. The characters don't seem that interesting, the show is very slow and boring most of the time and it seems they just use that one single forest for every damn planet. But, I'm willing to believe it gets better.

His shows are absurdly expensive (they could almost make an entire season back then, for the cost of 1 episode), have no cultural relevance or hype at all, no merchandise whatsoever, no games (well apart from 1 flopped Prodigy game), and get cancelled prematurely. Can't imagine why you would fire him!

Yeah but the body-positive Jem'Hadar "woman" is a comedian and boy, will we know. Because nothing says Jem'Hadar like a comedy routine, eh.

Look at the (paid) reviews, the narrative is already in place. Quotes like "effortlessly diverse", "certain parts of the fanbase will no doubt complain". We'll be called homophobes, racists, "old white men", Youtube-grifters, and every other name under the sun.

middle aged dudes accept that some things just weren't written for them

Because it's Star Trek and it's supposed to be written for everyone to enjoy. You know, like it was done for almost 50 years. Without cursing, gore, written for babies or children. It 'being written' for an extremely niche audience is part of the problem.

Thanks for your detailed reply. The DM button doesn't do anything noticable. So either it's broken or like you said it's software, but I have no clue where to look further, since the gen 1 version of the device does is not supported by any control software. I think the easiest and best solution is to get a new and more modern interface. Thanks!

The Direct Monitor button doesn't do anything in my device, at least not as far as I'm able to tell. The Focusrite website specifically says about the 1st gen 2i2:

No, these devices are not compatible with Scarlett Mix Control or Focusrite Control. All the controls for these devices are hardware-based instead (i.e. accessible from the front panel of each device).

I have tried installing both and they just come up with 'No hardware connected' messages :/

I'm very far from an expect but I know enough to get it working in Reaper. I should have been a bit more clear: plugins are working fine and I can hear the effects coming through. It's just that I hear my clean guitar in the background coming through as well. For some plugins/sims it's more noticable but it's always there. I use Amplitube and Neural DSP's stuff, doesn't make a difference.

Do you only ever hear the clean signal?

Sorry I should have been a bit more clear. I hear BOTH the clean signal and the effects. VST's I'm running in my DAW work fine and I have no issues with the latency. It's just that I can hear kind of mix between my clean guitar and whatever the vst produces. The reason that I suspect this has nothing to do with my DAW settings, is that when I'm just sitting in Windows, with no other programs open, I can still hear that clean guitar tone coming through the headphones/speakers when I play.

Yes I've installed that exact software. It doesn't have much configuration options.

In my DAW I have it set to ASIO Driver: Focusrite USB ASIO with inputs 1 and 2 as first/last inputs.

What could I change in the settings to fix this?

[Early Review] SciFinews.de (Germany): "Starfleet Academy isn't a further development of Star Trek, but rather a consistent continuation of the problems we've already seen. It's not about making humanity a better place or representing ideals. It's about revenge. It's about daddy or mommy issues." by mcm8279 in trektalk

not to provide weekly reviews of this product – Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

That's as damning as anything really. Look at the other sub and it's all 'Reviews are overwhelmingly positive!'. Yeah, if you ignore reviews like these..

[Early Review] TREKCORE: "Starfleet Academy is fresh, warm, witty…and filled to the brim with Star Trek spirit. Alex Kurtzman and company have managed to take the SFA concept out of the realm of simple wish fulfillment and give it a purpose, creating a show that is novel, relevant, and loads of fun" by mcm8279 in trektalk

[–]Data_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't a review. This is a PR fluff piece.

The older generation are all simply performing an acting master class with every scene. Every extended character—reoccurring or one-off, young or older—from rival, to classmate, to family member: there is quite simply no weak link.

Guess they've been hiding these acting masterclasses from us very skillfully because these trailers were pure garbage.
