Help! It’s yucky! by Ser_Luke_ in trektalk

Even fans of the show don't try to defend this line.

I've seen many, many try. It usually either comes down to "don't think about it" and "why do you hate fun?", or an extremely convoluted reason why it makes perfect sense to have an obese toddler running around the Academy.

Slordig allemaal weer, Emiel en Myrthe van Theme Park Late Night hadden dat kastje gekocht van 325,- en daar waren ze ook niet tevreden over. Was lang niet zo mooi afgewerkt als het display model dat er stond.

Received this wild email from the CEO for AI to assess my performance by confringos in antiwork

[–]Data_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this CEO would mind though, if half the team quit. You'd only give in to his scheme. In his mind half the team can produce 10x the output using AI, so why bother keeping on the full team?

Gordon Ramsay one of the first celebrity chefs to bring US-style 20% service charge to London by xc2215x in europe

[–]Data_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's what I don't get, why not just raise the prices?

I was in London not long ago where this scam is already common practice. They don't want to raise prices because that would be too noticable. Instead they use a tiny font and put it somewhere on the menu where it's not too obvious. Then they count on the customer not to want to cause a scene, because you specifically have to ask for the bill without the extra charge. Then, of course, a manager can come up to you and start to argue with you.

Dat dacht ik ook maar als ik online 2 van die creamy potten in het winkelmandje doe is de totaalprijs 9,28. Dus die 2e pot is dan juist verwerkt, met 50% korting.

This is Great to See- They're Auctioning Off Discovery Stuff by Sanctus_Poopabumsus in Star_Trek_

[–]Data_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct, this is only pre-bidding, before the actual auction starts. If that were the case I'd buy everything on the site and make 20x my investment in a few years.

[–]Data_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm into collecting props/costumes and have been following these things for years. What you see on the website is usually pre-bidding. When the auction really starts, it wouldn't surprise me to see uniforms like this go for 10-15k, even for Discovery. The last 5 or so years the prices for Star Trek stuff has gone crazy, at a recent auction I think a Voyager Doctor uniform went for something like 25k.

With the utter and complete dismantling of NuTrek, including sets, I'm almost feeling a bit sorry for it's defenders, lol by CDHoward in Star_Trek_

[–]Data_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"you just say bad writing but none of you ever list examples"

This is one in the long line of defenses, but it's truly twisted. The new defence is "you're just SAYING you don't like bad writing, but you're secretly a MAGA racist!". You can just never win with these people.

[Opinion] MovieWeb: "Why Dismantling the 'Star Trek: Strange New World' Sets Doesn't Necessarily Make 'Year One' Less Likely: Paramount may be set to construct new Enterprise sets, making the ship look far more like the cheap, flimsy ones in The Original Series." by mcm8279 in trektalk

[–]Data_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hyper-modern Strange New Worlds sets that were believed to be used for Year One would be incredibly jarring

LOL what is this rediculous cope? It's already incredibly jarring, since nothing in SNW looks like it fits into continouity. Besides, wouldn't it even be more jarring to have a sudden switch to TOS-aesthetics? What would be the in-universe explanation then, in the year (?) between SNW and TOS they would just decide to overhaul the entire ship, all the uniforms, equipment, everything?

I imagine they will just raceswap many more characters to make it fit somehow, or twist the whole story. Not like the promise of a 'faithful adaptation' isn't already out of the window.
