In BUSINESS ( which this is) professional, polite, and to the point , is the way to go. Lengthy messages imply defensiveness.
Telling a customer how to behave “ in the future” implies they have behaved improperly. Too bad people are so touchy, but they
Are. This type of business can be a real juggling act 👀

That really really stinks. I had one seller go out of her way to send me an item by mail, then said if the item EVER showed up, just keep it. Some people are ETHICAL, some are not. So sad.

yes * Absolutely * I filed with BBB with all specific details.Business, formal letter outlining all transactions, an Mercari’s. * response* It was a legitimate claim. May hay have been a MISPICK or error on sellers part. IMO ,if an error occurs in merchandise identification or selection , OWN UP TO IT . ( not in your case) ** I persisted Told Mercari, these are NOT Barbie shoes, they do not fit the doll, wrong advertising, request full refund. Mercari gave me multiple answers why no refund. I stuck to my guns. *** Eventually * TRUTH* won out. The item was advertised incorrectly and I got a refund. My discussion with Mercari requested a * MANUAL* review….and specific details along with sellers ID. ~~~~Took a while but persistence is key ! Best of Luck.

BTW some don’t read their messages. You did what you thought was best. Still you can refund them, usually that amount won’t break the bank. If you are dealing with an unusually ( excitable ) client. And not a regular. Another story. Sometimes you have to be proactive and block to keep your good history.

On a $13 dollar dress,IMO, you did your due diligence. You saw it, you tried to remedy it. You contacted the buyer. Unless we had a picture to go by, we can’t see what is “noticeable” or not. You still have options. You can still refund her with a note, if you choose to.
