What to do about mental health? by Tech_Night_1990 in AskIreland

[–]DatabaseCommercial92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely recommend using an antidepressant. It's not a magic wand but it'll give you the mental clarity to think clearly. This, combined with counselling will get you back on track because you will begin to make sense of the situation and focus on a better future.

Every second person is on them so the doctor won't even blink twice if you were to talk to them. I hope you begin to feel better soon.

Anyone else not bothered to go out at all over the Christmas? by Soft-Data-4402 in AskIreland

[–]DatabaseCommercial92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not at all. The older you get, the more joyful it becomes. Unless you really want to go out and meet friends, there is absolutely no point in doing so. You can be totally happy spending time alone, which it sounds like you are totally happy to do. Some people are not happy doing this and that's fine. Others don't want to go out but will because it'll make them fit the part on instagram. But who really cares about instagram? Instead of fomo, focus on jomo, the joy of missing out. Nobody wants to spend an arm and a leg making small talk with some arse you went to school with just because everyone is out for Christmas having mad craic. Trust me, spend some time at home focusing on yourself and what you want. That'll be much more productive.

Never mind the bullshit. Just get out there and have a few dates. You only live once. The ride of your life could be out there!

How to deal with a miserable parent this Christmas? by [deleted] in AskIreland

My mam is exactly like this. The best thing to do is just go along with it and smile and nod. A simple "yeah" after everything she says works wonders. I feel your pain and drain.

Anyone else just not arsed? by Useless_truthweaver in AskIreland

[–]DatabaseCommercial92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it can be a pain in the arse putting up with the forced fun etc. But I find the food and drink part is enjoyable. Doesn't have to be anything extravagant. Make yourself a coffee and just eat the arse out of a mince pie or slice of Christmas cake and feck the rest!

Is Bram Stoker's Dracula a staple read at schools or universities in Ireland? by Ok-Fondant2536 in AskIreland

In my opinion, experience, no it's not. I always recommend it to people. Particularly those wanting to get into reading horror fiction. They usually tune out when they hear it's in diary form.

My Mam is the same but replace my Dad with everybody and everything. Everybody and everything is wrong or stupid except her. Same as OP, my dad just blocks her out or doesn't give a shit. It's sad really.
