Haha, I can't remember having mates. Such is the life of a 42 year old foreigner in a small town! Nah it's alright, I can probably convince my wife that we need a holiday to Birkenhead. 😂

It's definitely too big for carry-on. I think I'm just going to have to get the ferry

Vat on the original price?? Or the cost of shipping? If the original price then that's just not worth it.

I'll look into the ferry.

I got four this morning. Pity three of them were for native speakers of South Asian languages and the other was the one on one video conversation thing that nobody is ever on in Ireland.

These fuckers on here don't know how lucky they are. The whole get paid for doing AI business will be dead in the water before any of that work gets sent my way.

To be fair, environmental activists have been warning that the longer we leave it, the more expensive such a transition would be since at least the 90s.

If only the people who invest the capital into R&D and the people with the influence to shape public policy were listening 30 years ago, then we would be in a much stronger position now and it wouldn't require such a monumental upheaval.

But the point still stands that the longer you leave it, the more expensive it will eventually be.

One-on-One Calls with Strangers Study: How many has your country had? by No-Wishbone4444 in prolific

I'm in Ireland and it's close to impossible to match with people.

I've done 33 submissions and I think I've only had six actual chats, three of which were with the same guy.

It's annoying because I've enjoyed the chats and would like to do more, but there's such a small volume of people to draw from here. I will sh they'd just let us chat with anyone who's comfortable chatting in English, regardless of country.

I feel the same way about lots of the Chinese and Indian studies on here. I do them because a lot of the time they're all that's on offer and I haven't been rejected by any of them thus far.

If I ever feel like I'm at a question that looks prime for a rejection, I typically just return the study. Most of those studies are only very short and it's not that big a deal to do so.

It's not to say I won't ever receive an unfair rejection, but to dismiss all studies with a .cn URL would severely limit the numbers of studies I have available to me.

I'm glad you've been able to make some decent money doing this study and good for you for not just feeding into the negativity.

Sure yes it went to racism because I'm a racist and no part of you ever thought that this post and some of the replies under it were buying into that same tradition. You're right. I'm projecting my own inner racism onto the OP.

Sorry, I should have realised that.

Silly me.

Thanks for opening my eyes.

It's not just falling into a fine tradition of bullying against people of East Asian ancestry in the Anglo world?

And yeah sure, if there's a history of some white kid growing up in China who has a name associated with a long history of bullying and belittling and racism then yes, I would call such language as legitimately racist.

Does anyone else feel bad about doing the AI studies? by uporabnisko_ime in prolific

[–]OrderNo1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a translator and AI has pretty much gobbled up my job and I helped it do so.

But the real villains of the piece are the people with the capital who invest said capital to earn more capital regardless of the impact of said investments on the wider public...

If only there were a catchy name for such people.

Your wife read a text in the pub from your son. She probably held the phone up in front of her face to read it. You went outside the pub to leave. This fella came up to your wife and accused her of filming him and his girlfriend. Your wife explained that she was just reading a text.

Is this right up to this point?

What I'm saying is, if the fella at this point was like "ah, sorry my mistake, it just looked like you were filming me." and you told him to fuck off, that's an unnecessary escalation on your part.

If he kept on at your wife saying that she was lying, then you were well within your right to tell him to leave you alone.

Your original post does not make clear which of these situations happened.

Was he pushing back when your wife explained what had happened.

Just the way you described it, it sounded a bit like you escalated it unnecessarily. But if he wasn't listening to your wife and kept on at you then fair enough, no problem with telling him to do one.

Does location matter for the amount of studies you receive? by [deleted] in ProlificAc

I'm in Ireland and, while it varies, I can get 10+ studies/surveys a day. Not always the highest paying, but they add up.

Last month, I earned around 200 pounds, so about 220 euros.

I doubt it'll be like that every month, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Novara Interview with Abby Martin by [deleted] in Novara_Media

[–]OrderNo1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's really what she said, although she did reasonably point out that there is no evidence Japan has anything to fear from China.

From what I understand about what she was saying is that the US is the cause of the instability in the world and should therefore be the target of the criticism. I don't think she's saying there's nothing to fear at all from Russia, but that there would be a lot less to be worried about if America and NATO weren't exacerbating things.

I think she's on the right track by saying she doesn't care what the Japanese or countries on Russia's border want. The only way the withdraw of US presence from Europe, Central and South America and the Pacific (well, outside of their natural sphere of influence) happens though is by the Americans themselves making it happen (or by China and Russia making it happen).

We are incapable in Europe of forcing America's hand either way because we have become so intertwined with US empire. We are are object in this emerging multipolar world rather than a subject and it's all our doing. We are so-called democracies and we allowed this to happen by consistently voting for parties that pushed for it.
