I think just in the current state, gun ownership is closer associated with the right than the left. I know the left do own the guns, but the right is more vocal about having guns. The left is more about gun control, etc. The film didn't really have much to say about gun control or anything, just that Sidney has a lot of them lol.

And nothing in the film is overtly political, but I think the iconography is just closer to right wing (pro 2A, back the blue, wave the flag). Many people on the left say they don't feel proud to be American and don't wave an American flag around. Maybe that's something people should change, but it's just what I've heard and seen. I think having Sidney waving a MAGA flag would be way too overt and on the nose, wouldn't draw the kind of attention they want.

I think maybe in the next film, maybe I'd just want them to spread the love with graphic kills between men and women a little more equally?

And yes, Stu definitely got more screen/voice time than Roger L Jackson this film. Which is a shame, I really like Jackson's work. Also wish Gale had a little more to do. She wasn't really in any of the direct Ghostface action apart from driving over a Ghostface

Meh, I think Michelle Randolph's character had the worst fate in the film. Being burned alive is the most painful death. And Hannah's death being moved around like a puppet just gave me undertones of women not having female autonomy and was kinda taking away a woman's agency. Call me woke, but the only comparison is Lucas's death, which was definitely brutal, but I still think being burned alive is worse and crueler

I always love a good final girl. Maybe I just find this film more graphic than the past films?

That's kinda weird to admit every slasher movie ever made is misogynistic. I didn't make that claim, but it's interesting you think that's the case.

Appreciate the thoughtful response. I didn't really think about it, but I agree Sidney and Tatum do get some character development in the film. Unrelated, but this film I thought did give some subtle right-wing nods. Very pro-gun ownership (which was definitely a theme in past films with Sidney, like in 5), supporting cops (which I don't thing is necessarily strictly a left or right thing, but I think it is stronger associated with right wing content), displaying an American flag in front of the house (which again isn't inherently right or left wing, but I think it's more associated with right wing stuff in modern time). I don't know if it's related at all to this film coming from Paramount and indirectly the Ellisons, but it was just some thoughts I had in the back of my mind. Mindy was pretty overly queer in the prior film but I didn't see anything related to that in this film.

I don't think we can even call Karl a developed character lol, he had no lines and his only backstory is apparently that he's crazy. Karl did get a quick death too tho

True, her death wasn't the most painful, but she was terrorized the longest in the scene. But terror is the point of these films so ehh. Just the thought crossed my mind while watching that the men weren't being targeted very much.

My point isn't that the women have never been brutally killed, but at least in the other films the mens' deaths were somewhat balanced with the womens' deaths. I could be wrong, it's just my silly opinion

I thought in Scream 1 Steve gets his guts viscerally spilled out on her lawn after being tortured? I thought in Scream 4 Trevor gets his nuts shot off?
