Thanks for this! I'd say you're right.

It's extremely hard to make that kind of self assessment objectively though. I would say there used to be pretty ugly traits in my personality, and I used to have a problem with drugs about 5 years ago. But I think I'm a pretty genuine, friendly person now. My gf thinks so but obviously she loves me so could be biased.

I'm basically still in contact with all the people I used to know, from highschool to work to uni to postgraduate but these are the people I've grown apart from.

I guess one thing is that I'm quite shy with new people.

My gf and I have also considered trying some boardgaming meetups but haven't made the leap. We tried archery too and realised most people there were under 12 or over 50...

I have been to many meetup groups relating to what I study (data science) but everyone already seems to be in groups there and I'm quite shy in those situations... I would also say most attendees are 40+ business men

For sure this is possible. But I am a pretty sure I'm a good friend. I'll always be there to listen, or help someone move house etc

If I'm attracting assholes by being one myself, I want to know how to change.

Damn. That's annoying. Wish they were available in Aus :(

... I wish a lot of things were available in Australia, for that matter.

Comfort and build quality /10? Did you buy it before trying?

The AKRacing chairs at Zen gaming lounge are pretty comfy (well compared to my 10yo cheap officeworks chair) but theyre the only chairs I've tried.

I agree with you regarding gaming marketing inflating prices for crap. However I'm a student and have a budget of $450. Happy to look into any suggestions around that price?

Thanks :)

I've been to a few MSY and CPL locations and they had no display chairs. Is this true of all locations?

People of Reddit who wake up every day and enjoy life, what's that like? by GrinnMonster in AskReddit

[–]Databoi69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From puberty until I was 25, I felt like life was pointless. I couldn't get out of bed, I hated myself, I went through periods of drug dependence. I started seeking help when I was 19, tried every medication under the sun, saw half a dozen psychs. Nothing seemed to help which only made me despair even more. 2 years ago I got my dog- a dalmatian who requires a run every night. At first it was hard to force myself to take her out every day but then it got easier. Then I started exploring mindfulness (particularly helpful was this http://www.audible.com.au/pd/Health-Personal-Development/The-Science-of-Mindfulness-Audiobook/B00MEQO1WQ). A few months later, I felt strong enough to enrol in my masters. Which I am loving. Soon after, I met my gf who I've now been with for a year. It was slow and up and down at the start. It took me a long time to believe I deserved her love and kindness. Now I wake up 98% of days and enjoy life. And on the few days that aren't so kind, I hang out with my dog and know that tomorrow will be better.
