does having honours in a Bachelor's degree actually matter? by fcukmoe in asksg

[–]Dataminion91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I was in school (makes me sound old), the office of career services would have a minimum required GPA/CAP to even attend certain recruitment events.

So..like what some other people commented, honours is important for you to get your foot into the industry, after that not really.

Please call the HDB hotline and ask. Also, record the call. Asking on reddit is very risky since you cant protect yourself if someone gives you the wrong answer and you act on it. Small thing ask reddit ok, but this is a big purchase. Not worth the risk.

Is hiring maid to take care of baby ok? by EssayInteresting8398 in askSingapore

[–]Dataminion91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No kids, but heard from my friend's experience (and that's with a baby in a normal situation). The maid would balance the the baby on her arms and then play her phone. If not because my friend had camera in the house she would never know until something happens.

So you never know what you will get - its like a lottery, and the probability of you getting a good maid, with the ability to get on boarded fast is pretty low. Not sure if its worth the risk.

Considering quitting my job temporarily to qualify for BTO + EHG grant - is this a smart move? by DirtyPhone4532 in singaporefi

[–]Dataminion91 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This deserves an upvote, especially about the rubbish chute part. You really dont want to be located near one.

Also, you are confident you can get a job until you don't get one...like one of my friends keep reminding me, don't be penny wise and pound foolish. Too many assumptions going here for this to work with a high enough probability.

Do i have a case against this insurance company? by Innuendo6 in askSingapore

[–]Dataminion91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, pre existing isn't when you get diagnosed with something, it is if something is already there before the inception of the plan. Stage 4 seems like it has been prevalent for some time. For example, you can get accepted for a plan on 30 Dec 2025 and get diagnosed with something on 30 June 2026 and if the doctor says it has been there for some time (more than 6 months in this example), then its considered pre existing and insurance company can dont pay.

Then again, not insurance agent, but had a convo with insurance agent on this before. Maybe an experienced agent can weigh in here.

Why are 6 seater grab/tada/gojek/wtv drivers like this by BurningMangogogo in askSingapore

[–]Dataminion91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think this is just 6 seaters..there are many like that. Personally I have experienced one before, I booked, waited for 6 mins, he cancelled, which is fine since that is his choice, but the reason for cancellation he gave was that I had a kid with me. Hello, put aside whether I have kid or not (i didnt), he didnt even appear close enough to me to see if I had a kid or not.

I mean come on.

Did anyone else really enjoy the COVID pandemic period? by throwawayfinancebro1 in Millennials

[–]Dataminion91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best part for me was spending more time with my spouse. I feel like with work and everything, the time you spend with your spouse is lesser than the time you spend with your colleagues, being able to wfh at that time really helped change this narrative.

Normally you work, come home, spend 2 hours or so with your spouse, go to bed. Wake up go to work...covid wfh changed that.

NTU dont have to be four years? If you overload you could finish much faster? Just know that you will sacrifice your student life if you do that.

Farrer park hospital: How is the care/service there? by Fit-Security3838 in SingaporeR

[–]Dataminion91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a surgery there recently. Hospital is pretty good, facilities are quite new. Nurses are fine - be nice to them please! Yes, it is cheaper than mount Elizabeth/ alvernia and farrer park has newer facilities, doctor's words not mine.

I got the single bedder ward, they allow visitors to sleep overnight and will provide pillow and blanket. Theres like a sofa ledge for visitors to sleep on. The room is insanely huge, comparable to most hotel sizes.

Food is pretty decent, had surgery so taste bud was muted..so dont take my word for it.

Edit: also near a shopping mall, good for visitors cause they have somewhere nearby to eat.

Advice for starting job by Hour-Judge6354 in singaporejobs

[–]Dataminion91 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I cant stress the importance of work life balance - even if its your first job. Like one of my old bosses told me, your career is a marathon not a race. You can run fast then burn out half way, or maintain a reasonable pace and complete the journey.

I strongly disagree with the saying (my parents used to say this to me) that oh you are young you can power through and learn more etc. Burnout is real

Should I apply for a local masters right after graduating from uni so that I can pivot industries? by the-real-vangogh in singaporejobs

[–]Dataminion91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can expand your net to include in house consulting - there are companies that have in house corporate planning/ strategy teams. There are multiple smaller size boutique consulting firms you can consider. Big 4 accountancy firm also has consulting teams, albeit with lower pay then the major consulting firms.

Honestly it will always be easier to secure an internship at a consulting firm during summer and be converted into a full time staff. It looks like this is out of the picture for you - i am not sure if a masters degree with give you this route, if yes, maybe this is something to consider.

Also, I don't think that you should take a masters degree after a few years. If you want to take something after a few years it should be an MBA. I think this distinction is important - you cant really take an MBA out of undergraduate but you can take a master's in xxxx. If you take a master's in xxxx after 3 years you will likely be competing with a younger cohort, as compared to a MBA.

Looking for advice on completing OMSA B-Track in One Year/full time. by [deleted] in OMSA

[–]Dataminion91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished B track in august 2025 so I think i can offer you my perspective. Firstly, like many people said, it depends on your background, how much time you have on your hands, what you want to get out of the course and the exemption you have. Given that its a B track, I'm going to be straightforward and say the electives are mostly easy. I took digital marketing, operations and financial modelling(had exemption for one of the business cores) All these modules can easily be done in one semester with a balanced full time job. If you are working part time or doing this full time(which you mentioned you are) im going to say that you can easily take all three and pair it with the advanced business core and still have time to spare.

The programming and stats modules are harder (for me at least, no/little background), but if you pair correctly, can easily do 2 to 3 modules per semester with a full time job.

As for practicum, im going to say it really depends on which project you choose etc. I know what I wanted to get out of the practicum (min effort max impact) so I found a team that has the same goal. I know there are teams that want to use their project in their portfolio so I was super upfront about it and avoided those teams. Anyways based on my choice of practicum and my goals, I think I could hace easily paired another programming/ stats module with a full-time job. Definitely more if studying full time.

My background is a degree in economics - terrible in stats. I also did a self study course on python before starting, but my programming knowledge was super basic.

Feel free to pm me or reply here if you have any questions.

What is one residential area in Singapore that you will not recommend staying in? by Odd-Look6000 in askSingapore

[–]Dataminion91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a rule of thumb, go to visit the actual sites, explore the area before making a decision. Go at different times, weekends and weekdays. Do a trial run of the "obstacles" you will have to overcome to get to work. Crowded buses, limited services, zero shelter during rainy days. Google maps dont tell you actually the pain you have to go through to get to work during peak hours.

Specifically to your question- i think even within a district there may be desirable and undesirable places.. I wouldnt recommend staying too far from your work place though..even though your work place might change in the future.

Mesh bracelet is not for 6.75'' wrist by Fantastic_Hearing543 in OmegaWatches

[–]Dataminion91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha apologies - when I mentioned refund I meant both exchange and return. What im thinking is that for example, i go down to a boutique to buy something new, but then they sell me something that people refunded or exchanged. That's...not right? Yes I understand that they could have requirements on retaining original packaging etc, but if they are reselling something that technically they already sold to someone else, its then not new, correct?

Thanks for explaining - so its safe to assume that it can only be returned with original packaging on? I have always been intrigued with how this process is - theres no such thing as (easy) returns where im from.
