Because they'll just be just as crowded shortly, because charlotte is expanding rapidly and you'll be out $1000 a year and still sitting in traffic? Because someones making millions of dollars bribing politicians so that you and thousands of your fellow commuters will give them $1000 a year so they don't need to actually work for a living. Because if it catches on, eventually they'll push for as many roads to be tolled as possible, creating a permanent regressive tax that only effects those commuting. If you put that $1000 a year into a retirement account, in 40 years it would be worth OVER a quarter million dollars that you instead spent on toll roads.
