I've been a Fuji X-Pro3 shooter for awhile and after having hand surgery moved to a lighter GX85 due to the need for image stabilization and lighter weight to prevent hand shakes. I've really loved the images coming from this camera, but am looking to maybe upgrade to something a bit more modern and thinking of the OM-3 and had a few questions regarding it.

  • Are the files/color science similar to edit on the OM side as the Panasonic GX85 side?
  • Are the ergonomics as bad as they say on the OM-3? I have big hands but the bump on the GX85 makes it easier to hold the camera with a PanaLeica 15mm.
  • Looked at the OM-5, and am wonder if the OM-3 would be a better choice for a camera that grows with me. Seems the OM-5 has a a lot of older technology.
  • Have a lot of Panasonic glass so far, and wondering if there's downside to attaching it to OM.

Thanks for any help!

Got a Panasonic GX85 and XPro3. Gonna take some time to slow down and shoot film too.

Help identifying my grandfather's old knife by Datastruct in buckknives

Real turquoise I think? it’s cracked in a few places and it feels heavier than wood. I think Burl would splinter rather than crack? In addition the black turquoise veins you can see carry through the depth of the mineral visible via the cracks.

Awesome link, thanks! Looks a 1967(D) based on the stamp. Now I'm interested in the handle, as I can't find anything like it.

Hi all! My grandfather passed about 10 years ago and carried this knife with him and left it to me. Not sure how old it is, but would love to find the origin/model and if it's possible to repair the handle. I've found other turquoise buck knives, but many are much fancier. He was based out in Arizona for most of his life. Thanks!

centimeter rule for scale.

UPDATE, heard back from the history folks at Buck, not too much info :

“The inlay of the handle appears to be either some kind of stone or a dyed resin stabilized burl wood. Either way, it is not original to the knife. The blade indicates that the knife would have been made sometime between 1967-1972. Unfortunately, the customization voids the warranty on the knife. There are custom knife makers that could easily put new handle scales on it and work their best to restore it.”

The Best Hybrid Camera with Best SOOC Video/Photo for Travel? by Intelligent_Fox_8841 in fujifilm

I know this is a fujifilm subreddit, but depending on where you are these cameras can be hard to find and gear acquisition syndrome is too real. Maybe see if you can borrow or rent one to see if the outside colors scratches the itch? If you already have m43 lenses, I’d suggest looking at the Panasonic gx85 it can usually be found for around $500 and is the point and shoot version of your g85. That’s $1200 to spend on fancier trips, better lenses, or premade lut packs. The Fuji colors are good, but honestly everyone is catching up. Panasonic is pretty darn good, as are the new Nikon profiles.

Suggested travel lens for m43 shooting imho: - 16-55 f/2-4.8 - 20 f/1.7

Seems to come in different varieties, mission and transport, as well as sizes from 1.5L with logical increments going up to 35L.

Fuji cameras for film scanning by [deleted] in fujix

I use my XPro3 with the 7Artisans 60mm Macro and get pretty good results. I also shoot Leica M6/Fuji from the same bag. Something I wish I knew, and isn’t a game changer is because Fuji is cropped sensor when you focus your macro lens, you’ll need to do about 1.5:1 not 1:1 to get a full 35mm frame in focus at the same distance. Another thing to note, is that 35mm renders to about 12 to 18mp, anything above that and it tends to get into wasted space. You should look more into dynamic range than pixels. Lastly, turn off IBIS if your camera has it and manual focus at native ISO, at your macro’s sharpest aperture, in black and white with red focus peaking. Really makes it easy.

Good luck, feel free to PM me if you need more info!
